Dyson lust

Thread Starter
I have major Dyson lust. I want one sooo bad. I hate my current vaccum. We've had it for over 10 yrs and I hate that it kinda gets stuck going over the hadwoven rugs (that are kidna uneven) and that it's SO LOUD! I babysit a girl and 2x/week we go to her house and babysit her there and I end up vaccuming up messes and I love their Dyson! It's so much quieter than mine and goes over easily over the handwoven rug that my friend has just like mine.

DH's family always gives us $ for Christmas and he said that we can use that money toward a Dyson. But I'm wondering if we'd be overspending if there is something that is as quiet as a Dyson but cheaper. Anybody know?

I <3 my Dyson

Maybe there are vacuums out there that are as awesome as a Dyson that cost less, but I wasn't able to find one. Not that I tried that hard... we went through two other brands of vacuums before buying a Dyson (pink, nonetheless. They donated $80 of the sale to Susan G Komen)

We've had our Dyson for about four years now and it's still going strong with no issues. I'd say it's a worthwhile investment if you can swing the up front cost with the $ you'll get from DH's family. Maybe you can find one on sale over the holidays?

I remember seeing a vacuum that had a quiet setting. Of course I don't remember the brand, but I am sure Google could help you out.

Happy vacuum hunting!

I think there are some awesome high-end vac out there (Miele comes to mind) but I do love my Dyson. And I am not sure how pricey Miele, etc. are.

We got the basic model that was 400$ regular price, but it was either on sale around xmas, or we used a 20% off coupon at Bed Bath and Beyond.

The reason I was willing to spend that much on a vac. was 2 things. #1. My roommate had one, adn we lost a part, and we just called them up and they sent us a enw one in the mail for free. So I felt like there was good service to back up the pirce (of coruse this was when they had just come out so as they have grown things may have changed!).

#2. We bought a ~100$ Hoover fake-Dyson initially and it was awful. Rather than roll the dice on another 100$ vac, I wanted to just spend the money and get a good one, and hopefully not have to replace it for a long long time.

Miele range from 400 to 800 I think (my mum has one). I have Dyson lust also... I'm just waiting for the day our Hoover dies so I have an excuse to get a Dyson.

We recently got a refurb Dyson from overstock.com for (I think) under $300. It does a much better job than our 10 year old vac, which is now for cat litter I am very happy about having gone the refurb route instead of full price.

We have two Dysons.

We purchased the first way back when they first came out and it is still going strong. I took the leap after we ran through two cheapy uprights in two years.

I just got a Dyson Ball for our cottage and so far, I am as pleased with it as Dyson #1.

I love my Dyson. I bought a floor model from Best Buy for $140 off the regular price. It even came with the 5 year warranty.

My DH and I both have Dyson lust. We have just never wanted to spend so much $$ up front but it sounds like it would be well worth it. We have a Kirby that my mom gave us. It is really good for being 30 years old. (it has been refurbished a few times) But I didn't realize you could get a refurb dyson on overstock.com so I think we may have to check that out...

From the research I've done, I decided against a Dyson. They are expensive disposable vacuums. The average life-span is somewhere around 4-5 years, and if you're paying $400-500 for it, that's $100/year.

We got a Riccar instead (it was between a Riccar and a Miele). It was more expensive, yes. But it also has a life expectancy of closer to 20 years, and it is completely repairable (i.e. if a piece breaks that piece can be replaced locally, rather than having to replace an entire section or send it in for repair).

I had a garage sale specifically to raise funds to buy a Dyson. I bought it from Walmart when they had a gift card promotion going. It was around $300 and I got a $65 GC. Target often times runs gift card promotions for it too.

I absolutely love it. I use it almost every day. We only have carpet in the bedrooms, stairs and living room, and an area rug in the toyroom/computer room. I hate sweeping so I use the Dyson to clean up the kitchen, bathroom and laundry room floors. You can turn off the beater brush, or use the handtool to get into corners.

It works great and I can't live without it. I can't have crumbs on my floor so I love it. Mine is only a couple years old though, so I don't know how long it will last.

We have had ours for 4 years now (got it as a xmas present for ourselves 4 years ago, LOL). So far it is going strong- I hope the 4-5 eyar thing is wrong!

OTOH, maybe if it still works that just means I should be vacc'ing more!

I have two Dysons, and wish I had spent more for a Miele. I've had one for less than a year and its suction is already diminishing.

I got rid of my Miele when we got a Dyson. I hated the Miele. It didn't work that well, and the model we had was very poorly designed for using attachments.

We love our Dyson. I will caution you that it's not exactly quiet, though! It's quite loud (louder than the Miele that we had), but it does a better job. We've had ours for about 7 or 8 years now, and it's still going strong.
