He wants to be on top...

No, it's not THAT exciting. I am guilty of letting my son sleep on my chest since the day he was born. He sleeps better this way generally speaking, but until now was always fine sleeping next to me on his back. He is almost 8 months and as of a week ago has started to climb on top of me to sleep in the middle of the night. If I roll him off, he will sleep for maybe a half hour, then wake up and whine or strain to go back up. The thing is, it's starting to hurt me because he is so heavy. I like a good cuddle, but he wants to stay on top of me all night and I wake up with a stomach ache. Is something bothering him that he needs that comfort or is he just feeling cuddly? How do I wean him from this?

No advice, but it does sound really cute.

Could you try sleeping on your side cuddled up to him! Dd needs to be nuzzled in, to sleep.

LOL.. this isn't going to be what you want to hear.... BUT...

My first son did that until he was 2!!!! It was brutal, but endearing. Luckily my 1st son was a featherweight. It sounds like your little guy has some heft to him... probably best to really encourage him to sleep BESIDE you rather than ON you now before he crushes you into a diamond!
