Non-Bulkiest Diaper?

I'm going to cloth diaper Baby #1. I have started building up my collection and currently only have 12 organic BumGenius AIOs. I've been reading a lot and finding that people say cloth diapers are bulky and cause baby clothes to not fit and that people have to go up a size in clothes. Does anyone have this issue with their BumGenius diapers? What have people found to be the least bulkiest cloth diaper?

Thanks!

Something you have to keep in mind is that bulk = absorbency. You can get trim dipes, but then you can expect to be changing them every 20 minutes some days.

I just got some Bumperbottoms AIO and they are really trim! The absorbency is great too!

I used BG One Size and quite honestly the baby has a cute padded bum but it wasn't much of an issue with clothing except for a few brands like Gymboree. I had no issue with brands like Carters and Old Navy.

The only other issue I had with clothing because of the cloth dipes is that the diaper cover they give with dresses never fit but I didn't feel like I really needed to cover my dipes. Pants were usually fine if I stuck with certain brands.

Thanks for your replies. I figured that slimmer with some diapers could mean less absorbancy and in that sense bulky is definitely fine. I'm guessing bulkiness will only come into play when they are close to being anothe size but not quite there yet - the diapers could make it necessary to move up. Also as the baby gets bigger and the BG isn't folded over as much it'll make a difference. Too many other things to worry about!

BG org OS are very trim from med setting the small I think they are bulky. Most fitteds are bulky but I like them the best with wool coves so when dd wore fitteds she was in a dress but for jeans and leggings she was in a pocket or prefold snappied.

My ds wore FB without having to size up in clothes he wore zutano, gymboree and carters. The only brand that didn't work was old navy. Dd wore mostly prefolds and BG OS pockets(clover fitteds but were bulky unless wearing a dress) and I didn't have to size up until she had a huge off the charts weight gain and even with sposies reg pants don't fit. She only wears dresses with leggings from gymboree and zutano. My nb dd can wear GMD nb prefolds with her nb and 0-3 clothes no problem(carters, gymbo, zutano, baby lulu, janie and jack).

I heard that fishnoodles AIO's are as trim as a sposie but very hard to get

OS diapers can be really bulky on smaller babies. I think sized diapers tend to be trimmer. I use OS dipes bc I don't want to be buying new diapers all the time. Trimmest I've found have been the Rocky Mountain Diaper (a pocket dipe) and Softbums (an AI2 and my personal favorite daytime dipe). Most of her clothing fits fine over either of those.

Are you going to use the BG AIOs on your newborn?

Honestly I would not go and buy lots of expensive diapers before your baby comes. Just buy enough to start off, and get a mix of things. Then see what you like on your kid. Every baby is different and you may find the BG AIO (or whatever you've stocked) is not your thing.

I LOVE LOVE my Bum Genius Organics! I tried so many different diapers before finding these and I sold off my entire stash to purchase all BG....They are so trim on my son....However they would be bulky on a newborn...I started using these when my son was three months and they were not bulky at all.

My first favorite for non bulky is hemp prefolds with wool (shorties or longies). Hemp because it gives the absorbency w/out adding bulk, and wool because it is a cover AND pants/shorts. And, they look darn cute. My second is BabyKicks Organic Fitted. I've never found a trimmer dipe that soaks up like this one does. It's OS, but it fits like a super trim sized dipe. Its a machine, lol. GL mama

Thanks for continuing to share your expereriences! I am planning to use the BG at the newborn stage - whenever they fit in reality. I have 6 xs Sposoeasy AIOs coming my way in the next week or so. I've read that the BG fit pretty well when a baby hits 10lbs and the Sposoeasy diapers in xs go up to 10lbs. I'll see how they look when they show up. I figure we may end up using the Sposoeasys (yeah for a load of laundry every day!) and some disposables at first and then go from there. I have thought about wool diapers, but I'm really allergic to wool and so for my sake and (hopefully not) baby's sake I'm holding off on going that route.

I was a 7lb baby and DH was 9.5lbs so for birth purposes I'm hoping the little guy shows up more at my birth size but DH's size would be nice for diapers We'll just play it by ear and see what works best!
