Do you take OTC prenatal vitamins? If so, which ones?

I've always taken Duet Pre-natal vitamins but my insurance has just moved them out of the original co-pay bracket they were in and now wants me to pay $35 for a 1 month supply, which includes one multi-vitamin and one fish oil capsule. I could pay it if I had to, but I'm thinking there has GOT to be a cheaper alternative to having to shell out the money they're asking...

Do you take over the counter pre-natal vitamins and if so, what do you take?

First baby was TwinLab pre-natal, was a good value to me at the time. Didn't take a lot to get the nutrients I was looking for, and for not a lot of money. This time I also tried Completia, for the same reason, but ended up losing money because some moron didn't read the ingredients. They have something I am allergic to in them. They seemed like a good deal at the time, and had extra things in there to help combat nausea and the like.

I take Lifetime Professional Pre-natal Formula.

What I like:
* They're food-based (I believe this make the nutrients easier for your body to absorb)
* The amounts of each nutrients is based on optimum daily amounts rather than minimum daily amounts.
* Dividing the dose between six pills allows prescription amounts of folate without a prescription
* The price

What I don't like:
* You have to take six pills a day

I buy them at iherb.com. The tablets are not hard to swallow as multi-vitamin pills go, but if you have trouble swallowing pills the capsules are a bit easier than the tablets

I love the rainbow light 1 a day. I get them at whole foods. I did lots of research before I picked them.

I would have liked to do the 6 a day, but seriously, who has time?

I take Rainbow Light Prenatal Petite (3 small vitamins a day versus 1 big vitamin a day). I have to take these ones b/c I have a hard time getting down the full size vitamin. I've been taking them through this whole pregnancy and I really like them

I take the Trader Joe's brand. I used to take Rainbow light one a day, but found these to have the same ingredients. Cheaper too!

Last couple pregnancies I took Puritan's Pride brand-they often have B1G1 free or buy 2 get 3 free sales. You take 4 pills/day.

This pregnancy I'm taking Nature's Plus Source of Life Prenatal, which I buy from vitaglo.com You take 2 pills/day. ETA: contains whole food concentrates. Yeast, gluten, soy, and dairy free.

Anyone have any vegan-friendly recommendations?

I take Costco Nature Made prenatals + Carlson Vitamin D drops + costco fish oil capsules for omega 3/dha
No clue if they're vegan or veggie.
I like they're USP certified, one pill a day, and $12 for 300 - about a pregnancy's worth.

I take Rainbow Light.

Rainbow Lite One. I get them at a local HFS, and I got a REALLY big bottle (like 6 mos supply?) for $35. I like the herbal support they offer in addition to the vitamins. Plus, when I was first looking, I was vegetarian and my dr couldn't guarantee an RX without gelatin. My neighbor used them b/c they were gluten free as well.

New Chapter

They are a whole food supplement with herbs to help with digestion and absorption. They don't make your pee yellow! And they never make me feel nauseous like some others do.

New Chapter, what someone mentioned above, is vegan friendly.

Rainbowlite is also vegan. "vegan guard" it says on the label.

I've never really taken the prescription prenatals. My naturopath doesn't really like them and doesn't feel that are formulated as well as many others on the market. There are many good ones out there, but I really like the Completia Prenatals. They're made by Nature's Way, which is a brand I like and trust, and I like that they only require me to take two pills per day. I can never seem to remember to take any more than that. They also are coated with peppermint, which helps with the morning nausea.

For those of you that take Rainbow light, I assume the 6 a day is better than the one a day, as far as better assimilation of vitamins?

Also, what does the pill look like? I want to be sure it's not like most vitamins that come out of the body the same way they go in: whole. I'm assuming since there are herbs that it would easily dissolve in water and therefore, in the stomach.

It sounds like a great prenatal!

Do you know if these are vegan? I like the idea of whole food concentrates & so does my midwife.

Right now I'm taking Deva Vegan Prenatal. Don't know how good they are - ordered off Amazon & they had good reviews.

And where could I find New Chapter?
