How long to wait after general anesthesia (sp?) before nursing?

Title says it all....I'm having surgery on Dec 1st, general anesthesia, and DS is still nursing (mostly just at night / naptime)... how long do I need to wait before letting him nurse again?
He's certainly old enough that it won't kill him to wait a couple days if needed...but come bedtime, he might just think it will.... I can definitely see some tantrums if he's not allowed to nurse.

Usually the rule is you are safe to nurse baby as soon as you are safe to hold baby. No need to pump and dump. www.kellymom.com has lots of info both about general anesthesia and also the specfic medications.

Good luck with your surgery!

Hi mama,
I had a general for my cs with ds But the good news is that the lactation consultant was about 5 minutes behind my baby when I finally got to meet him (about 3.5 hours after he was born.) She had him latched on and nursing in no time. She knew I had the general and was working with the nurses and doctors that knew it, too. No one said a word about not bfeeding. Good luck with your surgery!
