Question re: Soakers/longies and what's underneath...

Okay so I'm an old CD pro...when it comes to pin em on and slap on some rubber pants, or thirsties if ya wanna get fancy pants. I've done AIO's and Stuffers and just went back to plain jane wrap em, pin em, cover em and go.

I'm looking into learning to knit finally...been crocheting for years. And my first project I'd like to tackle some soakers...cause they're cute. And I'm pregnant, plus I still have one in diapers so I'm just gonna go for it, with no brilliant expectations at first....

And then it dawned on me...what's under there? All the pics I see are perfectly rounded padded baby bums. I never see indications of pins anywhere, or bulk or twists...Now I currently use thirsties and a prefold (toddler GMD's) folded sideways in thirds and no pins. If I have tight pants for my LO I will pin them on to reduce thickness although it creates "pin bulk" on the hips.

I'm thinking that you can't just slap a prefold in soakers? or can you? Do you pin? Do you snappi? Show me, tell me, enlighten me mamas! What's under those soakers?

ETA: New baby in the end of May will not need longies or really pants at all for a few months...I think flashing some cute soakers would be adorable for the summer. Am I right? And since I stopped to edit...anyone have a recommendation for a cute pattern (if your a knitter) that would be a good starting point? Thanks in advance!

I use pinned prefolds or fitteds. I save the Snappis for the PUL covers because I don't want the teeth to snag my wool.

I snappi my prefolds or use fitteds.

I like the curly purly pattern, but if you google it, you'll find quite a few patterns out there...

There may be links under the diaper making section, too??? Not sure.

I use fitteds. Go to www.ravelry.com and under patterns you can search for "longies" or whatever term you want to. My fav right now is the Wooly Wonders with the Magic Loop and no grafting.

I prefer to use prefitteds (prefolds that I converted into fitteds & then had snaps put onto) or fitteds under wool, but for a baby/toddler w/ solid poops, a prefold or flat snappied on works perfectly fine, too. The main thing is that poop can leak out (leg holes are not tight like rubber pants) and also badly stain your wool, which is why I think a lot of moms go w/ the ease of fitteds.

Thank you so much ladies! I'm glad I asked Wish me luck, I'm diving in...these pattern suggestions are simply scrumptious!

I think I'm going with pinning since I have a good stash of prefolds already. Maybe I'll splurge on some fitteds to save the wool from staining in the early weeks/months. Thanks for the tips!

I'm planning on using fitteds (probably the second-hand Kissaluvs and Swaddlebees I just scored) under the wool I'm knitting. I also have some ME Sandy's and if they fit under the wool, I'll use those too - I understand they fit a bit bigger.

I am a beginning knitter, and I'm almost finished my first diaper wrap - it was super-easy and almost idiot-proof (if I can do it... LOL)

I'll probably branch out to shorts-type soakers next.

Since this thread is here - how do people lanolize home-made soakers? I'm assuming washing in Eucalan won't be enough to start and I need to soak in real lanolin (Lansinoh or something?).

Like this http://www.greenmountaindiapers.com/lanolize.htm Sometimes brand new wool will need to be done more then once.
