How do you lanolize?

I tried to lanolize a pair of longies using Lansinoh. I think I messed up and used too much or something. They took FOREVER AND A DAY to dry and you can't touch them without having that icky feeling of it on your hands.....

and those were my blue ones! :

Its okay. The extra lanolin will wear off. Wool does take a while to dry, its absorbent and that part of why it works.

I prefer to use Wool Buddies. I could never get the 'perfect' amount of lanolin for different pants, soakers and covers right. What worked for one didn't seem to work for another and it just drove me nuts. Wool Buddies are my friend now.

Also, just as a guide, I generally use about 1/2-1 inch out of the tube per cover I'm lanolizing.

I use small baby food jars filled with water, add the lanolin and microwave it until it's melted. Then I add about 1/4 of a teaspoon of baby wash to the jar, cover, and CAREFULLY shake it to combine. I then add this to cool water in a large bowl-enough for the cover to swish around easily-mix it well, and add the cover. I like to do it inside out, so the heavier lanolin is on the inside, where's it's needed most. I swish it around for a minute to saturate the cover well, and then let it soak for about 30-45 minutes. When I take it out, I grab it by the waist, so the water flows through the bottom to give it one last dose of lanolin, then a gently, but firmly squeeze the water out. Then I roll it in a towel, walk on it, and set it to dry.

If you're frustrated by how long your covers are taking to dry, you could try placing them by a fan, which will speed it up. I know some people lay them over a heater or vent, but I'm wary of doing that because of the possibility of shrinkage.

Hope this helps!

Good suggestions, but I thought I'd share too. I added lanolin [from frontier (a couple of coops order every month) it seems to be more liquid than lanisoh] to a bottle of eucalan. I pour 2 tbsp into my washer and fill to the low line. I then add my woolies and let them soak ~ 15 min. I let them spin out because I'm not particularly worried about felting or reselling, but you could just let the water drain instead of spin and gently squeeze out the water, roll in a towel and lay flat to dry too
