Amby Baby Death(s)

So I saw http://www.mothering.com/discussions...ight=amby+baby in the nighttime parenting section and after reading the information available, I am unnerved. My baby doesn't sleep in her Amby all the time, but she does sometimes. I'm conflicted because after reading some of the posts about the baby rolling to one side or the baby's head being below her feet, it seems that there is definitely some misuse of the bed. It is easy to tie the bed to make the head end higher and also to balance out problems to prevent rolling in little babies. The problem I am having is the fact that their American website, emails and phone numbers are all down. That does not inspire confidence.

The Australian site is now recommending removing the mattress after four months of age because it is harder for stronger, older babies to roll in the hammock without the mattress. It also has an "Important Notice" on its mainpage with a list of "product enhancements" I just don't know whether the bed is safe. I sent a very long e-mail to the Australian Amby Baby and am waiting for a reply. I don't want to call because I feel like verbally you may not get to the truth, but in writing they will be more likely to give the whole story. Anyone out there with an Amby? What will you be doing about this situation? If you can, please e-mail the company through their other websites. Perhaps if they are bombarded with e-mails they will provide more info.

The e-mail is amby@babyhammocks.com

As a side note: When I clicked on the e-mail on the Australian site, the link says amby@babyhammocks.com but once I click the email inserted in the "to box" is ahooi@bigpond.net.au. See? Isn't that odd? The company is behaving in a very odd manner. I sent my e-mail to both addresses to be on the safe side.

Here, try this link.http://www.mothering.com/discussions...ight=amby+baby There is link to a babycenter thread in that link that if you read the whole thing, you can see a few posts from the father of the five month old baby that died. The father states that two other babies died last year in the Amby, but considering those parents didn't report it to the US product safety commission, I think it was because they maybe hung the hammock from the ceiling or there was some other type of misuse. After doing more reading, I'm still okay with my baby sleeping in the Amby, but I will be checking the adjustment every week as she gains weight. If it is properly adjusted she lies completely on her back with no rolling. We'll see what happens as she gets older. I will be taking the mattress out at four months, like the Australian website suggests. There is some information on that site in the FAQ section. We'll see if I get a reply to my e-mail. I sent the same e-mail to both England and Australia because I want some answers!

I'll be very interested to follow this. DD hasn't started sleeping in her Amby yet (she still prefers being in bed with me... weird) but we do have it set up and and some point we were planning on using it.

The really not cool thing is that Amby (USA) isn't giving us any information. Probably the advice of lawyers, but still... there's a lot of parents who would like to hear from them right about now!!!

Fyrebloom-I thought you had a mama's little helper. The problem wasn't with that hammock, so if he did sleep in it I think you would be safe. Just make sure he doesn't roll to either side and that the hammock doesn't tip toward the head causing the baby to slide back toward the head end of the hammock. So I got a reply from the e-mail I sent to the UK branch and they told me to send my e-mail to the head office in Australia which, of course, I already had. I'm not happy with the lack of response. I have not heard from Amby other than from the British passing the buck and the call I put it with the JPMA has not been returned. I will call the JPMA again on Monday. I encourage anyone with an Amby to e-mail and make calls as well. The only way I believe we will start getting information is if we make ourselves hard to ignore. I provided the e-mail addresses above and the number to the JPMA is 856-638-0420. Press the option for public relations and I believe the woman I spoke with was named Linda.

My local ABC mid-day news just ran a teaser about the Amby being recalled. Story hasn't ran yet.

Here we go - http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?se...lls&id=7159527
