Do milks really go BAD after 7-10 days?

OK, hiding under a chair a bit but--- almond milk, hemp milk, etc - they all say you have to use them within 7-10 days. This may sound gross but I've taken as long as 3-4 weeks to use the whole box up. I've never noticed any difference.... Just a nagging feeling if there really is some sort of breakdown or toxicity issue or - ?

Does anyone know? I'm looking forward to hearing (?) I'm not the only one that will throw out an expensive little box after 10 days (wishful thinking).

thanks.

I've never had one go bad. Sometimes we take weeks to use one up.

My DH (chef by trade) and stepdad (grocery store manager) both claim that a lot of the "freshness" dates are just put on to keep product moving off the shelves.

I've kept them for much longer than 7-10 days. I might draw the line at like a month, but I think they are still fine after the date.

When I make it fresh, it goes bad pretty quickly (the oils start to go rancid especially in hemp milk) but I never had a real problem when I used to purchase the boxes. As long as it has a tight seal I think you should be good. I did have a couple that went bad, but they were forgot about...

It probably has an ingredient in it that stabilizes the oils so they don't go rancid

I travel a lot for work and often have to leave the milks sitting in the fridge.

Sometimes they stay good for weeks, sometimes they go bad really quickly.
If I'm unsure, I give them a quick shake and a smell before having any.

If they go off, you can tell easily, they will smell bad and/or have chunks in them.

I generally let one stay up to about 3 weeks, but as somegirl99 said, you can tell if it's bad by the smell or chunks. Soymilk tends to last longer than almond milk, IME.

I let it go usually about a month later (with soymilk.) Like the others have said: in our house... if it smells good, and looks good- it's all good

I don't think I've ever had any go bad on me, and we regularly take 3-4 weeks to use a box up. Ditto everyone on the "if it smells good, and looks good- it's all good"
