My DD is still in pre-reading skills, but I stumbled across mention of the Pathway readers and am intrigued. Has anyone used them? Just how religious are they?

Pathway readers?

I have the first grade set with workbooks. We have really enjoyed them. They are very nice hard cover readers. They are Amish stories centered around farm life. The Amish do not believe in teaching religion in school so there is no direct religious teaching. I have heared that the older-6th through 8th grade do contain history of the anabaptists though. If you use the workbooks the teachers guide lays every lesson out for you and includes some extra hands on activities. The method is mainly sight reading with some phonics. They start by introducing vowels first.
The stories do emphasize good behavior and I noticed one mention of going to church in one of the readers, but it is just mentioned (it was time to go to church).
The only other thing that I noticed is that they called a baby girl horse a colt when the correct terminology is filly or gender neutral would be foal
(i am a horse person. I am sure that this would not bother most people
)
Anyway, my kids like them.
