Little Emory is home after a 35 day stay in the Winchester and UVA NICUs. He had surgery down at UVA when he was 7 days old... quite a trooper and Dr. Rodgers was AMAZING!!! Then his incision got infected and burst open and he was on antibiotics. They tought us how to pack and clean the wound and we requested to be transferred back to Winchester where it was only 30 minutes away verses 3 hours away. Once in Winchester we started working on bottle feeds. He had IV and NG tube feedings for 17 days so it has been quite the struggle to teach him to eat orally (he wants absolutely NOTHING to do with my breasts) but I am able to provide him breast milk :-) We found out our little man is also diagnosed with Metopic Suter closure Craniosynostosis and will be having head surgery around 6 months old at UVA. This journey has been fraught with ups and downs, that's for sure! He is a happy little boy and starting to smile at us already. He sucked his thumb for the first time 2 days ago and I am happy to report, with my husband's diligent efforts, he has been off the NG tube and no overnight gavage feedings for 3 days now :-) He is certainly our TOUGH GUY! Hope everyone is doing well PP and those still waiting!
