Whats in your "whole house hit with the flu" kit?

I mean everything you would want to survive the week from cold medicines to paper plates to healthy frozen sick meals. For those days when standing for 2 minutes really is an effort and you need to be able to just pop something in the microwave to feed the family.

Cold medicines:
Real sudafed (that PE stuff does not work for us)
Mucinex (you can get the cheap $1 bottle 100mg stuff and take 4x-6x as much for the same effect)
Tylenol and Motrin
Delsym
Emergan-C
Ocillo
Garlic
Lemons
Honey (make this tea to break up congestion and stop even the worst coughs cold.)
Vitamin D
Zinc supp

Kitchen:
Paper plates, bowels, cups and silverware to last a week (remember this is for when you your so sick you can't stand so washing dishes is not going to happen. We only have a few dishes and would run out within 2 days.) Using coupons last year I scored enough to last the winter colds for about $4 total.

Food in the freezer
GF Chicken Noodle Soup
Chili

and not sure what else, we like potato and ham soup but potato anything doesn't freeze well.

Bathroom:
Large pack of extra soft TP for when the big D hits, you really don't want to be using the cheap stuff that day

Bedroom:
2-3 extra sets of bedding, for some reason when my kids throw up they are just not that considerate in just puking on the top blanket, oh no, they have to soak every single blanket on there bed! So we try to keep 2-3 sets around but our blankets after hundreds of washings are falling apart and not insulating like they should. Hoping to score some warm ones soon.

General stuff:
Large metal bowels or bucket for puking kids who can't make it to the bathroom in time. Keep 2 on hand for each kid, give them the other bucket while your rinsing out the 1st one. This has saved me a lot of washing of bedding.

Something to use as a large trash can, tall hamper with a trash bag in it? My kids go though a serious amount of tissue from runny noses and can fill a small waste basket pretty quick. I bring in the larger one and can get away with emptying 1x a day.

Plain extra soft TP instead Kleenex, that stuff is $$ and TP works just as well and its actually in more kid friendly sized squares. (my kids have not been receptive to cloth wipes for their noses)

Lansinoh for raw/chapped noses, will heal even the worst nose in less then a day most of the time.

We don't use humidifiers, for some reason my kids get pneumonia every time we use them and that includes brand new out of the box ones. If we need damp air we go in the bathroom with the shower on, usually though the cold night air works wonders. More then once we've had to sleep in a room that's 40F to keep the croup (yes, at 9 my kid still gets croup!) under control and yes we were bundled up warm all night just had cold air to breath, felt like camping in the house

Pedilyte or similar drink.

GC for 1 mo of streaming Netflix ($9) to keep kids happy for 1-2 days while you recover because heaven knows mama is always the last to get sick. Also keep bookmarks for free sites movies/TV for the kids to watch online for free. (we have no reception here so we get everything online. When sick you don't want to be trying to figure out how to navigate a website to get to what you want.)

Wow- I am so thankful we have never had the flu. I think we usually have a good supply of a lot of that stuff in our house, I just don't know what we would do if I actually got sick.

Consider yourself lucky! I get hit 1-2 times every winter with something bad and its miserable. Last winter we were not totally prepared, this winter I want to be, were all sick with a mild flu or something right now. Thankfully the kids are more interested in resting and watching movies today rather then bouncing off the walls so everyone can rest. Just thought of something to add, Vit D and Zinc supps and GC for 1 mo of Netflix for $10, gives you streaming video access that should keep the kids busy for at least a day or 2 while you recover. That's worth $10 in my opinion Heaven knows I'm always the last to get sick and I get sick worse then they do.

I've been told by even mainstream doctors to skip the pedilyte and use apple juice. It is much cheaper and tastes better and is gentler on tummies that are already upset. I also live off ramen noodles, crackers, and popsicles when I have the flu.

Actually, we've heard white grape juice is easier than apple on sick tummies. Something about apple causing more cramping? Not sure.

For me it is ginger ale with real ginger and Gatorade (once my ex-DP food-poisoned us and we both got the worst headaches from getting rid of it, the doctor told us it was from dehydration and to drink Gatorade). And saltine crackers for when we are ready to have something eat. I also have papertowels for handwashing and we throw away our toothbrushes when it is over.

I hear you. We always have a sick stash of things we need because to go to a store is 20 minutes away. The big things for us are Gatorade, Kleenex, toilet paper, and pre frozen food that is super easy to make. I also have been known to dig into DD's Christmas stash and find a stocking stuffer or something *new* to keep her entertained while I lay on the couch . It is so worth it.

uh...if the WHOLE house had the flu, the onlything in my kit would be a call to gramma. lol.

According to WHO the best thing to dehydrate is regular koolaid mixed just like the package with the sugar and a sprinkle of salt in every glass. Thats what they use even with people who have dyscentary(sp). It worked wonders last winter when we had the vomiting and diarrhea. A sip every 10minutes.
