my 5yo is about to lose his first tooth!

for those that do the tooth fairy thing, what do you leave? we are thinking obscure things ($2 bills/half dollar, etc) but maybe I could make it more fun..looking for ideas.

We leave gold dollars coins. if he loses one near or on a holiday the tooth fairy might bring something relevant. Last year he lost a tooth on Halloweeh so the tooth fairy left him the webkinz bat.

Also- the tooth fairy leaves magical dust too (glitter) usually around the tooth box or near his pillow.

I always got a dollar. Not sure if we are going to do the tooth fairy, but I have heard the gold dollar one before and think that is a great idea!

We use $1 coins here.

We don't do the tooth fairy but DD1 still gets something for every tooth. Once in was euros from my parent's last trip to Europe, a 2.00 bill, last time a half dollar coin, once I didn't have anything special so it was just 2 regular dollar bills.

A friend of mine actually dresses up like a fairy with wings and all! It's so cute and the kids it. She leaves just little things, money or a small toy or something. But the outfit is the favorite part.

We give a dollar coin and one of each of the other coins. The other coins were DD's idea. She drew a picture of the tooth fairy and it had all the coins, so we went for it!

Gold dollar coins. If you have some silver polish you can give them an extra sparkly touch.

I have a little box of miniature fairy dolls. DD1 hasn't lost a tooth yet, but I'm planning on having the tooth fairy leave those for her, so that by the end she has a whole little collection of them.

My 4-year-old just lost her first tooth on Saturday night. We scrambled to even figure out if we would be doing tooth fairy (we don't do Santa or Easter Bunny) and we finally just decided that yes we would. Since it was so last minute, we just gave her a $1 bill. She was excited about it and was happy to put it in her piggy bank.

We leave a $1 coin and some change. I have a friend that leaves an origami dollar each time in a different shape.

DS lost his tooth!
Toothfairy coming tonight!

(We got a gold dollar for him at the bank earlier today so it was a good coincidence! Just in time! !)

We do paper money here, but I fold it into shapes, like hearts and birds and stuff. So periodically, I'm up in the wee hours googling "money origami" and muttering to myself about valley folds. Ds thinks it's pretty cool.

My parents were immigrants and didn't 'do' the tooth fairy or the easter bunny, so I'm sort of determined to make those things fun for my kids. I found these great tooth-shaped tooth pillows with a little pocket for putting a tooth in, so I bought two in anticipation of DD, who just turned five and is very excited about losing her first tooth in the next two years!

I think we would do money - maybe $2 or so for the piggy bank?

DD lost her first tooth last month. We just left a dollar bill...no matter what denomination it is, DD always refers to paper money as her 'dollar', so we figured we'd just keep it simple with a buck . We were sort of rushed. We didn't expect her to lose the tooth so quickly and we hardly even have cash on us. I LOVE the origami idea! We may do that next.

BTW, I actually think Amelia swallowed her tooth in her sleep. She got up one morning and it was just gone. We decided to wrote the tooth fairy a note to explain. I wrote it out and Amelia looked at it and said "No, I'll write my own note...." So she did. (I slipped the note into a box for safe-keeping...she's going to love it when she's older!)

Dental floss
New toothpaste
New toothbrush

Subsequent teeth have just been the coin

hah I'm glad I did a search on tooth fairy first! I was just about to post the same thread.
First tooth is $10
second is $5
and each tooth after is anywhere from $2 to $3 in coins..in a ziploc. Yes, tooth fairies have ziplocs!
