Siddie!!!! I'm so proud of you. It's funny, when I started this thread, I was looking for tips and advice, and I just LOVE what it's turned into!!!
I think the itching may have to do with sweat and your clothes....my fat gets moved alot when running and I find that kind of itches too...not sure what your bod is like, but I have a lot of fat to lose!!!

I ran today, and you know, I just love it, I'm singing to myself, visualizing my fat melt away, and it feels awesome. I'm wearing clothes I haven't worn in two yrs....soon, I'll be wearing clothes I haven't worn in 5 yrs!!!!
Today, I ran for 3 mins/walked for 2 mins five times. Total running time 15 mins, walking time, 10 mins.
I was pretty tired today, I worked nights last night and tonight as well. But now I'm off for four days (after tonight) So I'll get back up there in the running.
Geofizz~how awesome for you. I can't wait to start biking back to work, there's just TOO much snow and slush right now....but I should get my bike in for a tune up...and I HAVE to get on those sit-ups/crunches...my belly has lost all its fat, but it's now lose from my 6mth old babe!!!!!(looks like a real pouch)

I started this excercise/diet program on January 25th, and have lost 11 lbs!!!! 44 more to go!!!! I can do this!!!!

****I don't have a scale either, I weigh myself at work!!!!*****

Congrats Mamasoleil!! I am up to 10lbs lost!! about 20 to go , although 30 sounds better ! I didn't do too well thursday, I was going to go to Pilates thursday but my 9yo wrestles and had practice and we had a snowstorm here, plus my 2yo had a runny nose, so I didn't want to take her to the nursery. Ended up they cancelled practice but my DH/son didn't get home till half hour after the class started Again DH was late from work last night, so didn't do anything yesterday either, except play outside. Today was the wrestling tournament was in a gym, so I took the 2 youngest out and walked the track a bit, then came home and cleaned up the yard and played a bit. I think tomorrow I may try out the trail with the kiddos and the toddler in the stroller. Its supposed to be 65 here !!

HVL25~The way I see it, as long as you get some excercise in a minimum of 4 days...then it's all good! I'm aiming for 5 days, but sometimes, it just doesn't happen!!!!
Dont' get discouraged, and DONT GIVE UP....have fun in the trails tomorrow!!!! I sure will!!!!

Today was by far the warmest day we've had, since the fall!!! It was AWESOME...however, kind of screwed up my running plans!!!

I went into the trails with the dogs, and started my run/walk program, only to realize, there is NO WAY I could run, the snow was melting, and I was going right thru it, I fell 3 times!!! So, for the next little while, I'll have to run on the streets....
I did manage 2-3 min runs, and walked the rest of the way, I recorded 1.6 miles....:

yea, life and 3 kids and a husband that works all the time is difficult. And my kids are all at different stages with different things going on. Add to that that we live 600 miles from all our family and friends and no one to help out with the kiddos and it makes it really hard.

How old are your kids? Can you get them involved in your healthy/active lifestyle?
Some days, dd comes with me, and we race in the trails, then we both run...it's not the most intense work out, but gets your heartrate up....

HAve you been able to get out in the last few days???

I played hermit yesterday. I did my aerobics in the basement instead of running. I'm finding it's really hard to find time to run during the week. Last year wasn't so bad because DD would take an evening nap -- I could just plop her in the stroller and go. Now if I let her sleep in the late afternoon, we're hosed on bedtime. DH is a SAHD and so I'm not really willing to come home from work just to turn around and leave them again. Not fair to any of us.

I'm contemplating how to do something like take the bus to work and run home. I would have to figure out some way to transport home my stuff, which would be clothes, a thermos and tupperware at the very minimum. Ideas anyone?

DH wants me to join his soccer league this spring. I think he's ignoring the fact that we have a child that would need watching twice a week in that case. Otherwise, it would be great fun to get back on the soccer field.

we were out sunday at the park running around for 3 hours. My kids are almost 10, 5, and 2. The 10 year old has wrestling practice on Tue/Thur nights and all day tournaments on Saturdays. Its mainly my 5yo that complains about going for walks, he doesn't want to go , he is tired, its too hard for him to push his bike up the hills, etc, etc. I think aside from what I get at the gym this week, that will be it. Its supposed to rain pretty much all week, and that really stinks because its supposed to be almost 70 again tomorrow

You bike to work don't you? I'm also contemplating this...Dh is also SAHD. But I really need my 30 mins of fitness/day. He doesn't mind, and other than that, the baby stays in his sling on me and dd and I hang and visit people!!!

I think I will bike on my work days, that way I'm getting that cardio. And run on my days off! I had a REALLY good run yesterday...walked for 2 ran for 3 six times. Three of the running sets were uphill!!!!! I really feel it in my legs, and I'm not sure if I'm gonna go today or not....haven't decided...
My clothes are all SO loose, I can't believe it! I'm enjoying looking at myself in the mirrors these days!!!!

HVl25~is there a mom near you that you could do a coop with? That way you could work to have 3 1/2 sessions during the week?
Just an idea!!!!

Unfortunately no. The only 2 moms that I really know here both work daily. We have lived here since last April and I haven't met anyone, so basically I am on my own There is a 30 minute Pilates class tonight, so I am going to put the kids in the nursery and hope they don't end up sick again and put the oldest in teh game room and after the class do the treadmill for 30 minutes. That should put me home a little after 6 to have dinner ready by 6:45, not too bad right?LOL

Yes, I bike to work, I'm just thinking out loud to try and find a way to get more higher intensity excersize. My ride is about 14 minutes on the way in and 18 minutes home (difference is signals and one way streets). I barely feel warmed up by the time I arrive.

Congratulations on the loose clothing! All your hard work is doing wonders!

Anyone else think that this forum is poorly named? Honestly, most of what goes on here is about weight-loss. Maybe something like "Personal Reduction" instead of "Personal Growth"? Tee hee. Seriously -- maybe "Personal Improvement"?

I haven't been here in a few days!!! My baby has been very sick. But I have managed to run, and I'm adding a minute of running to every set tomorrow!!!

Geofizz, LMK if you figure out a way to run to work, we have the same distance by the sounds of it.....it would be great to incorporate running...although I like biking to work too!!!

I hope the added minute goes well! Wow, what improvement in a few short weeks! Good job.

I've now hit my excersize goals two weeks in a row. Of course, I just had to do 40 push ups to get up to my weekly goal, so I don't expect to be able to move my arms tomorrow. I think I need to increase the situp goal because they're getting too easy. So... next week: 300 sit ups, 125 push ups, 360 min aerobic excersize.

I ran to and from playgroup today. I ran 8 minutes continuously on the way there and 10 minutes continuously on the way back. (Plus 35 min of walking)

If we don't have 2" of snow tomorrow as they're predicting, I'll go running again.

Still no thoughts on running home, though I'm going to find a running buddy in town to go jogging while DH plays soccer on M and W evenings. His league doesn't start until late April, though. It looks like what will work is I bike to the field to meet DH and DD, go jogging with DD then drive home, leaving DH to ride my bike home.

Congrats on meeting your goal!!!!!

Okay, you are kicking my butt though with situps/push ups...must get to those, consistently!!!!:

That will be my goal for this wk!!!! Let's see...your totals are for the wk right? So you're talking approx 42 sit/ups/day?
Okay I'll go:280 situps and 100 push ups and 280 mins of cardio.

YOur plan to find a running buddy is a good one. I'm joining a running group thru my work, for once a week. Just be fun.

My thought was 50 situps/25 pushups per day, 5x per week. I've increased the goal to 60 situps.

I may have to reconsider the pushups. My arms just aren't recovering. These are from the knees, by the way. Ahhh, to be in high school again and be able to do 100 pushups from the toes before volleyball practice. I never was able to count the situps. Man, I had rock-hard abs in those days.

Yep. I hear ya, was competitive gymnast up to age 16...I can't even fathom doing some of the ab workouts we used to do....

Okay, well, I'll go with 50 sit/ups/day 5 times/wk..this wk, starting tomorrow...Monday.
The push ups, well, I'll go with 20...sound reasonable?

OT, well, not really OT, but I was just looking at myself in the mirror, and I can't believe how much weight I've lost in my face and shoulders...my collarbone is visible!!! Haven't seen it in about 3 yrs!!!!
And although I've gained a few lbs this wk, I know it's from muscle, and not fat, cause my clothes, well, some is not wearable anymore...and not cause they're too small!!!!
Didn't run today, I'm on my second nightshift...but tomorrow I'm joining that running group, they're doing 2.5 miles....hope I make it!!!!!

I am so so so so so so so so so so so so so proud of myself!!!! I just ran 5.2 kms!!! That's 6.24 miles!!!!! I ran for 5 mins, walked for 1....not sure how many times...: I was with the running group. I was the last one to finish, but they've all been running for at least a year, and I was only about 10 mins behind. So, YEAH feel good!!! I just did my 50 sit-ups...only did 10 pushups

I will run that same route tomorrow...it was absolutely great!!!!

Holey Cow! You Rock Woman!

Good job!

(Not sure I understand your km-->miles conversion though...)

I got my eyes checked yesterday. It left me way too woozy to do much. I did my situps and push ups, just nothing aerobic.

Keep inspiring me, everyone. I was doing great with running until I had dental surgery last week. At this point I am doing well to walk through my house without stopping for a rest . I had no idea that recovery would be this slow or difficult. The weather is gorgeous - I wish I could be running! Hopefully it will happen before too long - although I fear it will be at least a couple of weeks. What a bummer.

I just saw this thread... can I join in?

For the last 10 years or so I've been a light runner (3-5 miles, 3-4 times per week when I'm *on the wagon*) -- I work with people who run marathons so I consider my schedule to be light running :LOL

Well, I stopped running when I got pregnant with dd in May 2002. Ran a bit when she was about three months old (hoping to run an annual end of April race but ended up with a plugged duct and mastitis the weekend prior so no race for me). Then picked it up again after the plugged duct problem.... but then we started doing a lot of home renovations last summer and I had lost all my preggo weight so I let the running slide. Now, I'm getting the itch to do the April race again and the weight is beginning to creep back on as dd is nursing less.

So, I've gone on 3 runs and 2 power walks in the last week. One of my runs was a 4:40 a.m. (I start work at 6). I had hoped to run this morning but dd wanted to nurse at 4:30 so I just couldn't fit it in. Will shoot for tomorrow. The run I plan to do is a 5-miler and there's a big hill (it's on our university campus) which really separates the pack (about 10,000 do the run each year). I hope that I will be running well enough with dd in the jogger so I can bring her along but in order to do that, I'll need to do some local hills with her or I'll bonk on the hill in the race. There's another run I hope to do in my town in July. It's got a 3.5 mile and a 10 mile option. I'm aiming for the 10 mi -- in 2001 I was training for the 10 miler but didn't quite make it (I couldn't muster more than 7 mi and then I got a stress fracture in my foot).

Glad to see there are other running mamas here!
