Shoes for 13 mo. old with really fat feet?

My son is 13 months old and wears about a size 5 shoe...but his feet are so fat (not wide...they are fat top to bottom, not side to side), I can't find shoes to fit him! He's not walking yet, but shoes do keep his feet much warmer when we go for walks in the winter.

I've wasted so much money on shoes for him that never fit. The best luck I had were with a pair of cheap tennis shoes that have two Velcro straps across the top. They just barely fasten and fit.

I've looked on the Internet, and it seems lots of moms have this complaint, but I can't find anyone who makes shoes for fat little feet! Ideas, anyone??

A friend of mine has this same problem with her daughter. She's had pretty good luck with striderite shoes?
I don't know how pricey they are or anything, I've just heard her mention the same problem and where she has the best of luck.
Hope this helps!

I have a similar problem (& same size feet) with my ds. I got knock off Robeez & replaced the elastic with longer elastic ('cause it was digging into his ankles). I have also recently had luck with a slipper type shoe from Land's End with a leather sole - that with warm socks is what we are doing for outside right now.

My older son had this issue, too, and we ended up using the extra wide shoes from Stride Rite. Every other shoe I bought, he would refuse to walk in. The Stride Rites fit his little "Fred Flinstone" feet perfectly!

We had this problem too with our son, too. See Kai Run and PediPed were the brands that we stuck with pretty exclusively. Now that he's 27 months, his feet aren't as cubby, but they are pretty wide... I guess they spread over time!

We were doing Robeez until yesterday when I went to the striderite outlet and bought Jack ( 13 months) his first soled shoes. He ( like my other boys) has a very thick foot. We ended up with 6 xw. They had the first walkers ( several types) for 14.99! We got the white / navy saddle shoes.

Jack has been walking since 10.5 months so he is now in the running phase. We like to walk ds3 home from the bus stop and he needs something more than Robeez. They arent cutting it on the black top and its getting colder.

Stride Rite is my recommedation. They measure lenght and wideth ( wide , Xwide and EEE)

Walmart has these soft soled velcro shoes for about $12. They fit fat feet nicely, since my daughter has fat feet too.
