We have a female kitten and need to get her spayed soon. Both DH & I have owned cats before, but his was male and mine were back before I knew any better and always had them declawed and spayed at the same time and didn't ask questions.

We did not declaw this kitten and will not. She is strictly indoors due to high coyote population. Since we don't want any more kittens, I hear it is best to spay her for her own health. (Any references that support or deny this?)

She was a rescue kitten, but was too young to spay at that time. (She was found by a friend in a different city and that friend took her to a vet for care. She received immunizations at that time before we adopted her.) She has already gone into heat unexpectedly - just ended day before yesterday.

We do not have a vet we like, so I need to find a place, also.

What questions should I ask? Are there other places to spay a cat besides regular vets? What are the risks of spaying? What do we need to know in advance?

Thank you!
