10 month old not sleeping

Thread Starter
My wife and I are new to the forum hoping we can find a solution for this, but the biggest problem we are having is around 2 am, he will wake up and be active and ready to go like it is 7am, and he will not go back to sleep until around 4 am. He has a 8 ounce bottle before he goes to sleep, naps fine throughout the day, eats regualr like he should as well. We have tried everything we possibly can, does anyone have any advice for this at all?

My wife and I are looking forward to reading all the stories that ya'll have on here and are glad we found the website.

Thanks

You might get more responses if you post in the nighttime parenting or life with a babe forums. But since I am here.... Unfortunately I think it is pretty normal for a child of that age to be waking in the middle of night, although being awake for 2 hours does sound pretty frustrating. I always find with my daughter (who is almost a year old and still wakes a couple of times a night to feed) that if I get to her immediately (whether with shushing and patting or nursing), I can help her back to sleep more quickly than if I allow her to completely wake up... it is always more of a struggle then.

My one year old is still doing this. I think its developmental. He is on the cusp of crawling and/or walking.(He already scoots on his butt all over the place, almost in lou of crawling) Anytime he has been close to reaching a developmental milestone, his sleep is interrupted. (and he is a crappy sleeper anyway) He has been doing this to me for about 2 months, but once a night isnt nearly as bad as it used to be. I just keep telling myself how fast the first year went, before I know it, he will be 16 and I will be longing for those night wakings.

ETA, what I found made it easier to get him back to sleep, was to feed him during that night wakiing. He would eat while I changed his diaper, then drift blissfully back to sleep for about 2-3 hours. try it. Yours is only 10 months, so its not ridiculous to think he is not going through agrowth sprurt and needs the extra calories.

It happens to us 2-3 times a week. He's also waking every 1-2 hours throughout the night. I really don't have any suggestions, since I've tried pretty much everything! Just wanted you to know, you're not alone and I'm sure they'll all grow out of it soon.

I would try setting an alarm to get up just before he normally wakes up. I'd pick him up asleep, and feed him right away. A full belly before he's roused himself may prevent him from waking up.

I think it's pretty common for them to wake up...I'm impressed yours only wakes up once! (but the two hours must be pretty exhausting.). I've read from people who recommend CIO that their babies go through stages of being awake...they just let them cry and then they stop. Humph. I just get mine and cuddle them and then they stop. If there is something like teething or a developmental milestone disrupting him, it will probably pass in a week or so. (As long as another issue doesn't follow on its heels...)

I might also try first helping him sleep a bit more during the day, and if that didn't help, then a bit less. You could also try adjusting his bedtime forward or back a bit.

GL!
