Wanting to make oatmeal for breakfast. What is the best kind to buy?

What do you all do for breakfast cereals? Not like the box of cereal more like oatmeals, cream of wheat etc.

When I do oatmeal I just buy organic rolled oats from the bulk bins.

I soak 1 c. oats, 2 T yogurt, and 1 c. warm water overnight.

In the morning I boil 1 c. water with a dash of salt and then pour in the oat mixture. Boil for a few minutes.

I eat it with a little maple syrup and cinnamon or applesauce.

Would that work for steel cut oatmeal too? I just got some of that to try but I think it takes about 35-45 minues to cook on the stove and that's just too long for breakfast! my kids will eat anything but they are not patient about their food

We sometimes eat the whole wheat Cream of Wheat that stuff is pretty good. I would just recommend cooking it with milk b/c it just isnt as tasty when cooked in water.

We eat steel cut, and it definitely takes longer to cook... I cook it with half milk, half water, and sometimes with chopped pears or apples tossed in. You can crockpot it the night before so you don't have to worry about it. Often what I do is make a big batch on the weekend, pop it in the fridge, then scoop out about a cup, mix it with an egg and fry it up like pancakes.

Steel cut oats - soaked overnight (I use water and a splash of vinegar) in the rice cooker. Then I can just flip it on in the morning.

i do my oats in the crockpot so they're ready in the morning! oats (rolled or steel cut) plus whey or kefir and water, plus i throw in some raisins, flax, coconut oil, cinnamon and a tbsp of rapadura. i have a mini-crockpot i got primarily for oats, and they really only need to go for about 4 hours. most mornings DH gets up at 5:00 and turns on the crockpot on his way to work. on mornings he will be sleeping in, i use one of those light timers so it will turn on at the proper time.

instant, wholesome breakfast!

We are allergic to oats over here, so we use bulgar as a great replacement and our latest is a sprouted cracked wheat meal. So yummy.

We usualy put loads of butter, frozen berries and bananas, and maple syrup together. I cook it on my double boiler so not to have it on direct heat.

I soak steel cut oats overnight then cook on the stovetop. They only take about 10-15 min after soaking.
