Losing weight and the holidays...

Thread Starter
Well, I got weighed on Monday and am still 17 lbs from pre-pregnancy weight, which was a bit of a downer to see, especially since I started pregnancy 10lbs heavier than I should be! That means *27* lbs to go!! Yuk.

I am STARVING all the time with tandem nursing, plus my body goes into "famine preparation" mode when I'm nursing, i.e. "MUST HOARD EVERY CALORIE IN CASE OF COMING FAMINE!" In other words, I DON'T lose weight while breastfeeding.

Anyway, with Thanksgiving tomorrow and more holidays next month that include (at least in my family) lots of delicious and fattening food in front of me at all times for days on end, I'm concerned about not only being able to lose weight, but possibly gaining weight.

Sooo... anyone have any techniques or some sort of program for getting through the holidays and still being healthy/working towards weight loss???

Ugh......I am the same way. Two of my closest friends are as well. None of us can seem to lose weight while breastfeeding. It sucks. I think I looked thinner the day before I had ds! If that makes any sense.

Do you have a Wii? I plan on using the Wii Fit, Sports and Resort to the max when I am able to do more exercise.

Ask for a smaller plate and half your portions! I am cutting dairy at the moment so that should hopefully help my decisions. Good luck!!

Really!? How cool! We don't have it, but I'll grab it if it's still at Costco this weekend.

Since it is technically an add-on to the original it's only $20. It has new activities and tools too. I am very impressed so far.

Some things that have worked for me:

Load up on veggies/salad and bring a healthy side dish you know you like so you'll have something to eat. Have a small slice of whatever dessert you just can't resist so you don't feel deprived. Drink lots of water and have hot tea or coffee to drink after your meal, so you won't be (as) tempted to nibble or go back for seconds. Go for a family walk after dinner.

We did the walking thing after dinner last year, before dessert, because everyone was too full to eat it yet anyway, and everyone enjoyed it. I hope to repeat the experience.

I bought a Wii fit plus for the holidays, can't wait to try it out. Now if I'd only been this diligent when I was pg, maybe I wouldn't have gained so much weight! Good luck! Oh, and I've got to lose 29 lbs still, so don't feel bad.

eh, screw it. i've gained 20 lbs SINCE she was born and i'm not about to give up pie for something as little as a good body image and self-esteem. i'll lose weight later. besides, NOTHING will help because i also go into hoard mode and i could live on water and still gain weight. BRING ON THE SAUCE AND THE PIES! lol

When I go to big "feasts" I just get small samples of everything- that keeps me "happy" but allows me to eat better and yet feel like I'm not depriving myself. Like a spoon full or two of everything. Sweets are another problem!

And for losing weight while b-feeding- according to research, it doesn't help with weight-loss until you reach the 6 month point! That's when baby needs more calories and the body tends to start shedding. I noticed that was true with DD, almost to the day!

I'm actually down a lot faster than with DD (within 10 pounds) but I'm finding it's because I have a very hard time making time to eat with a crazy life full of a toddler and my 10 'work' boys! I need to make eating better a priority so I don't fill up on sugars!

That being said, Happy Holidays everyone!

I agree, I ate all I could and was still hungry. I just do what my body tells me to do.

Even though I'm dieting I'm GAINING weight. I have been sticking to weight watchers but it is not working. I'm still 20 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight.

My new Wii Fit Plus came yesterday... and the verdict is Obese with a Wii fit age of 44 (I am 34).
Urgh!
Now I will say that the Wii tells me that my ideal weight is 132lbs... and I have been 132, and I look positively emaciated at that weight. But even 150 is a loooooong way away right now. (I was 170 when I got pregnant, so I needed to lose weight even before starting this adventure!) I was 224 when he was born, and 191 now 4 weeks later.
I'm going to use the Wii Fit starting now and just keep it gentle. (I am 4 weeks out from the c-section, so I don't want to strain myself, but I feel like I HAVE to start moving a little bit more.) I also bought EA Sports Interactive which is supposed to be a more vigorous workout. I may wait to try that though until after my 6 weeks doc's appointment
We'll see... I am seriously out of shape. We played Beatles Rock Band for a while earlier tonight, and I felt like playing the drums for 30 min was a workout!

I want that EA game! Is it any good? Also, have you seen the commercials for the wii dancing game? looks interesting.

I've heard upping the fat in your diet can do it. I have a friend who lost 57 pounds while nursing eating bacon and coconut oil. And with her olderdc, she'd had a lot of trouble.

I am ALL over any nutrition plan which involves weight loss while consuming lots of bacon!!!

Anyone seen the movie Fat head?? The guy lost weight eating tons of saturated fat and limiting Carbs. His cholesterol was better too.
I am just so annoyed with looking frumpy and fat... I haven't lost a lb in like 4 weeks. I have 1 pair of pants that fits and its like 4 sizes bigger than my regular pants. My face still looks fat and my thighs are scary.... I mean come on... my babe is 7 weeks old now. I am back at the gym and eating my regular food ( just a bit more since I am always hungry nursing) that kept me at 112 lbs for most of my life.
I know I lost all the weight last time but I feel like I have hit a wall..... Can't the weight just dissappear as fast as it appeared?

I'm so use to the wii telling me I'm obese. I'm only 7 lbs from my pre-pg weight, but I was still 10-15 lbs overweight. I'm starting postnatal yoga with my almost 13 lb (6 week old ds). I healed really well since my c-section.

Having the wii tell me I'm obese SUCKS. Especially because when we got it I was still in the normal range. What also sucks is when you stand on the board and it goes "Oooh." like it's straining to hold you. *shakes fist*
