All I can say is that my foster-mom said never to use it for a "dry" teether, so maybe?

Good to know, thanks again. Also, looks like gems are put in between the pieces of hazelwood - with a choice of coral, sodalite, or turquoise. they look pretty but will the gems just interfere/cause reactions? If not/good to get, which would be best do you think?

The most traditional would be turquoise and is used as a general tonic, really. Coral is supposed to have teething-helpful properties as well- I would avoid this if there's any apparent inflammation (such as a red cheek) as one of it's keynotes is heat. Sodalite may be helpful if you think your baby is reacting emotionally (as well as physically) to the teething.
I would probably go with turquoise myself because that is what I've seen used and it's the most traditional for my tribe.

OK ended up taking some grocery money (luckily I spent a bit less than budgeted for the past two weeks) and bought a hazelwood necklace from Kuddly Kids - no gemstones - just glass/plastic beads between the pieces of wood. More economical that way and don't have to worry about gemology interfering/making him react negatively. But I did get the blue color to make it look more authentic! Should be hear middle to end of next week so we'll see... Thanks again for your help.

The hazelwood necklace definitely didn't seem to hurt - but didn't seem to help much either.

So I tried the amber necklace again as DS is definitely working on some teeth. But again it seems to make things worse (even after salt cleansing the necklace overnight and energizing in fresh running cool water). Almost like it increases the symptoms instead of decreasing them. Should I keep trying? Is it possible that it is just making him teethe faster? I know allspice necklaces can make teeth come through faster as they tighten the gums - can amber work the same way?

Not to my knowledge. Amber and hazelwood are supposed to help by decreasing inflammation, I believe. How long is he getting them for?

Seemingly forever! But really harder so in the past few weeks or so with his gums quite a mess in that time. No teeth so far, lots of bumps on his gums. Clear runny nose during this time too.

I meant how long is he getting either the hazelwood necklace or the amber necklace for?
I understand he's supersensitive to homeopathics as well. That makes for a difficult situation, I'm sure. Hmm.

The hazelwood necklace we kept on him all day for a couple of weeks (daytime, not night). The amber we've tried a few times during the day. Yesterday he had it on for probably half the day, today almost the full day (again daytime only) and was just SO fussy, not napping well, flushed, etc.

Lately he hasn't been as overly sensitive to homeopathics so I can keep trying that route...

My daughter had the exact same reaction! We had it on her for three days and by the third day I had to take it off her because she was so miserable, tired, and clingy. It was like she was ill, so out of curiosity I wore it on my own wrist and after only three hours I had a throbbing headache and a ringing in my ears! I have a theory that perhaps we already have naturally high levels of the succinic acid that baltic amber releases into the skin, and that maybe it's too much of a good thing so to speak. I'd say that hazelwood would not cause that same reaction, since as opposed to releasing succinic acid, I believe it's supposed to relieve the person from an excess of acid in the body. Have you tried wearing it yourself? Or maybe on the child's other parent? I'm wondering if it is a hereditary trait.
