Croup

Anyone else dealing with this right now?

I was woken up last night by what I thought was a dog in the bedroom. But we don't have a dog!
We sat in the bathroom with the hot shower running for a while, but his breathing sounded so rough all night, very crackly and wet. However he wasn't making extra effort to breath, lips stayed pink, and he slept just fine. So I just kept a hand on him to feel him breathe while I half slept. Very tired today...

He sounds fine today though. We'll see if it acts up again tonight.

Croup is always worse at night. If he's having a hard time breathing while sleeping, try sitting up with him in a rocking chair. It was always easier for my kids when they were croupy.

we are just getting over this. it was awful. it took over a week to see any improvment and the nights were the worst. days not too bad, he would play. but i went through an entire bottle of motrin and half a bottle of tylenol trying to keep him comfortable (sore throut, fever, terrible whiney). i went to the er on the 3rd night because he was drooling an unbelievable amount like he obviously did not want to swallow and coughing and gagging and wretching non stop. they gave us tylenol, did an x ray of his throut and swabbed for strep, both negative so they sent us home an hour later.

the things that helped... long chilly night drives, eucalyptus chest rub, humidifier on high 24/7, the rockabye baby song, letting him sleep diagonally across my body with me propped up. pretty much i did not sleep at all the entire time. also, he lost at least 3 lbs because he didnt eat and couldnt nurse due to congestion. i would stock up on some popscicles. also, boiron makes a chestal cough syrup that seemed to work well. althougth my baby is 16 mo and yours may be much younger so maybe none of this will work.

hope its gone fast and easy for you!
