19 mo says ow and grabs his diaper

My 19 mo is intact and for the last few days has been grabbing at his diaper. (We use sposies). He grabs the diaper and sometimes says ow, sometimes not. I looked at his penis and it looks fine. Sometimes the tip is just slightly red, but next diaper change is fine. I felt around the area and he didn't indicate any pain when I touched him. There was one point I touched the tip of the penis and he looked kinda uncomfortable, but not in pain. I don't know what to think. We don't have a penis-savvy pedi and I like her for everything else, so I don't know what to do. Could it be separating? Does separation hurt? Any advice or words of wisdom? I am at a total loss here. Oh, no bleeding, no discharge, etc.

maybe try nakie time and see if he still says ow? Is it wet when he does this?

Seperation can hurt read here about the signs of that http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=764732

It could be that erections are making him uncomfortable and ow is the word he is using to describe it. Odds are there is nothing to worry about if there where the symptoms would be very obvious.

If everything looks fine maybe he is doing it to say he doesn't like wearing a diaper. Ow is a powerful word when you don't know many.

i would bet separation.

it hurt my ds more than most i think (ignorant ER visit on my part ) but it was totally fine after a few days.

it hurt when my ds was peeing, so that may be why he's grabbing at his diaper, maybe when he pees it stings a little?

i'd suggest epsom salt baths, they really helped us.
