Ds2 is 5.5 months and has been wanting to eat with us for at least two weeks now. He watches us eat with rapt attention, grabs for the food off our plate and will not be deterred or redirected by a spoon or cup or whatever we offer as an alternative! A few days ago, he started drinking water from a cup and now no glass is safe on the table!
I was going to wait until at least 6 months for solids because of the open gut issue. And at 6 months, ds1 wasn't even really interested - he wouldn't go near a spoon and we just let him play with chunks of things for a long time until he was ready. But with ds2 so interested already, I'm wondering if a few weeks would really make that much of a difference. He can pretty much sit up alone (although he has a tendency to fall forward and assume the army crawl position...
) and he has two teeth already. I know he'd just love to get his fingers in some banana or avocado with us at dinner.
Should we wait until the magical 6 month milestone? Or is it safe to start a few weeks early?
