6 week old reflux

My 6 week LO is having reflux. Its been very apparent this last week(DD had it too) He mostly sleeps in my arms at night, semi reclined, but its not helping. My DD went on liquid Zantac, which helped her, but I wish to avoid this route all together. He is exclusivley breastfed, (so was DD) Ideas or experiences?

My DD's reflux improved drastically when I cut dairy from my diet. If I overdo dairy, I get gassy and sometimes feel a bit bloated, nothing special, but enough to suggest that I may not be fully digesting it. If I'm not completely digesting the proteins, then I passing the wrong stuff on to her. And THAT is what's irritating her stomach.

My LC said, "Just because reflux is common shouldn't make it normal."

Is there anything that might be irritating your system slightly? Maybe you can cut that for a few days (dairy takes up to two weeks to leave the milk) and see if you see a difference.

Also, propping the baby up for 40 minutes after meals and during sleep.

HTH.

Thanks for the insight. I had a sneaking suspicion about the dairy.

I agree about the dairy. Try cutting all dairy out of your diet, even "hidden" sources (read all ingredients on packaged foods and avoid the obvious like butter, milk, cheese, but also anything with whey or casein). Give it 2-3 weeks for the dairy to fully leave your system. I had to eliminate soy as well, but it has made a huge difference!
