Crib Recalls...Are you freaking out?

I am. Ours is not listed as one that is recalled but it is a dropside with the same hardware assembly so I don't even want to put the baby there-EVER! She hasn't been sleeping there anyway b/c she is still in the bassinet but she is quickly outgrowing that! What to do? Someone (a company) bought the crib for us to help us out (and it is the one I asked for) and since it is not on the recalled list we probably can't return it...

i guess since i don;t get the paper i'm not freaking out. maybe i should be? but our crib is a second-hand so maybe i should have been freaking out a long time ago.
what's the recall all about?

uh oh....just googled....ours is totally drop-down. i tend to pride myself on not being a freaker-outer but this might mean a trip to ikea.

They mentioned a repair kit on the news... Not sure if that is helpful at all, but there seem to be a problem with plastic parts (they break easily), and if those can be replaced with something sturdier...

I have Arm's Reach co-sleeper, but we did not use it that much...

Ours is a Storkcraft. This is the second time they've been recalled. Our dropside broke ages ago so it's been packed up in the closet since then (we cosleep anyway). But it's a big PITA when you consider how much we pay for these things and how much we need to be able to trust that they're safe.
I'm going Ikea this time!

ours is not on the list, but is a dropside. I'd probably be freaking out, except that 1) it is sidecarred, so the drop side is not on it anyway; and 2) she never sleeps in it, since she wants to snuggle all the time. It's really more a catch-all for extra pillows and blankets at this point.

mine is one on the recall list. it was so expensive, it's highly disappointing. though it was bought and we plan to co-sleep for a long while anyway. besides after the recall co-sleeping sounds much more reliable anyway... i think even with the fix it kit i dont/wont trust it.

we do have a storkcraft, but it's only for show- my in-laws gave it to us as a gift, ignoring me when i told them we were planning on co-sleeping. so i guess i'm glad we stuck to our guns on this one!

Nope. We have a Babi Italia that we bought when oldest DD (she's 9.5) was born. It's a drop side, but we've never had any trouble with it and both of my girls used it till they were 2+ yo (DS had a different crib that matched his room). The cribs that I've seen that were made in Italy have sturdier sides, for some reason.

No. Ours is not on the recall list, anyway, but from what I understand the problem is that the side can be installed upside down. Our side is definitely NOT upside down (the bite guard thing is on the top where it's supposed to be). We also decided to put a crib tent on it and it has a net that goes all the way around and under the mattress, making it darn near impossible for DS to get stuck in the side rail.

My husband built our drop-side crib from scratch. He's sure it's safe. No freaking out here.

I don't think our crib is on the list, but I have to dig out the manual and make sure. We aren't really sure what we want to do. I think that the upside-down installation is only part of the problem... the biggest part, probably. Toys R Us is no longer ordering any more drop side cribs. I looked at our's and it seems really sturdy. I think we are going to add some support to it somehow and not use the drop side.

I was talking to my mom and she was saying that this probably applies more to moms who leave their kids in cribs to kick and cry and try to climb out. She pointed out that my older daughter didn't spend much time in her crib or ever try to climb out because she knew that I would take her out if she cried. She only slept in the crib for her first round of sleep after she turned 1 anyhow. The new baby has already spent more time in bed with me than my first.

So, our first plan was to attach about 4 inch pieces of wood to the corner posts and the top and bottom rail, so the drop side couldn't move, but that wouldn't look pretty. The new plan is that we have a board of plywood under the mattress (same size as the mattress) anyhow for the motion detector monitor (detects breathing). We are going to drill holes through that plywood that is hiding under the mattress and tie some type of strap around the slats of the drop side so that if the hardware fails, there will be no space between the railing and the mattress.

But with Christmas coming, we might just ask for $ for her and buy a crib.

My parents built the crib that we have and it is very sturdy - kids spend 95% of their time in bed with us anyway. no worries here.

Well, I checked my crib out and found all to be secure or at least I hope...It is brand new so it hasn't been taken apart/put back together and basically, it is self explanatory as to how to put it together anyway. I do use directions unlike some of my husband's family...LOL! I am going to go with what I have and if it looks to be a problem, then I will take it apart and make it into the toddler bed/full bed and use it that way. Should work, huh?
