Milk Supply--Is it set or not?

I've read that once your milk supply is established, that it can be very difficult to increase it.

However, I have also read that your baby goes through growth spurts and cluster feedings, and that your milk supply will adapt to the increased nursing.

So, I'm confused.

Can you increase your milk supply (e.g. pumping) or is it set at a certain point?

It definitely increases as baby needs it more. When ds has a couple days of intense bfing I can feel the difference.

with a little work you can definitely increase your milk supply.

There is research that suggests that your milk supply is pretty established in the first 2-5 days, and that anything after that is just "fine tuning" to the tune of a few more ounces. I *hope* this is what happened with us and I can prevent it next time, because God knows, not one single thing helped my supply *at all.* Not everyone will be able to increase their supply with a little work or increased nursing.
