Need Iron

Thread Starter
I'm pregnant and the doctor says my iron is borderline and prescribed iron medication... although I hate to take anything that's not natural, as this has side affects and there are certain foods I can not eat it with etc. which I think is weird.

I do take a prenatal multi and Omega 3's- although I need a natural way to incorporate more iron in my diet without some prescription. I am currently in a foreign country which obvioulsy makes it more difficult to find the right foods. Any advice? Any information would be helpful!

Thanks!

If you can get Floradix Iron and Herbs that really helped me. Also, cook on cast iron whenever possible. I believe that vitamin c enhances iron absorbtion while calcium hinders it, so try to keep that in mind when eating your iron-rich foods. Can you eat liver? Red meat cooked in cast iron. Don't eat dairy with your meal, do eat Vit C containing foods like citrus. Vit C helps the absorption of iron, where calcium impedes it.

What about beans, molasses, oatmeal....these foods are all high in iron.
I'm currently in the same situation and have been upping my intake of these foods, also adding red meat....this has been helping, I'm feeling much better.

Good to know about the calcium and vit C, I didn't know that.
