40w 3d they will do a c-section at 41 weeks

Today I am 40w and 3 days I live in Arizona and the hospital that allows me to go for a trial of labor is 1 1/2 hr away from here, their policy is not to let me go further than 41 weeks and they do not induce, meaning that I will have to have a c-section on tuesday at 41 weeks if I do not go into labor before, cry!!!

I was checked on monday and was completely effaced with an anterior cervix only a fingertip dialated now giving them the possiblity to strip my membranes

Each night I have strong menstrual like crams which wake me up letting me believe that labor will be soon but they always subside by the morning.

I am so sad and anxious with the date getting closer and closer as if you are waiting for an execusion I tried some natural ways to induce labor but I feel exhausted from all that trying without success

Any Ideas???

First off, relax. Stress will prevent your body from going into labor, because it believes it's in a "fight or flight" situation. Secondly, they cannot do a csection against your will. You need to consent. Also, they can't do a csection if you're home. So....

1) Relax.
2) Have a glass of wine.
3) Labor at home as long as possible. If you can show up in the hospital pushing, it won't give them much time to prep an OR to operate.

Why did you have your first csection? It can help us give you ideas for you.

You know, the more I read threads like this, the more I want to say "F*&# hospital policy!" (And that isn't directed at you OP, just a general frustration I have.) I mean, honestly, why should we care about hospital policy, especially when it isn't rooted in good science?

That is my totally unhelpful vent of the day.

Sounds like your body is preparing for a natural labor. All the cramping is normal, and will gradually go into contractions, maybe not for another week(is the baby posterior? you might want to spend about 15 min a day or so in hands and knees to make sure baby is positioned best). I wouldn't go into the hospital until the contractions are 2-3 min apart or closer and 60-90 seconds long, beginning to end. In assigning an arbitrary day to cut you open again, the hospital is probably just covering its behind, rather than allowing you a real labor....it's up to you, but if you go in when they tell you, you might not be ready yet, and end up in surgery again...let us know how it goes....I second what Equuskia said...

I had my first c-section because I had hypertension and they tried to induce me at around 37 w 2 d with my body not being ready they tried the gel only over a peiod of days but my uterus only hyper stimulated with not good pattern to dialate or anything so at 37w 5d we did a c-section

Now my cervix is very ripe and paper thin all I need is the real labor to have this baby. The thing about me going to the hospital in the last minute is that it is a min 90 min drive through the desert to get there, scary for my husband to drive me there in very active labor, but I would still try to stay home as long as possible I also have a doula.

For so long I have been planing it to have this VBAC and now it feels like its slipping away from me.... all I can do is cry

My guess is if you think your labor is beginning in earnest(you can't talk thru contractions anymore) have your doula stay at the house til you think you really need to go. Most second babies take longer than 1 1/2 hrs to arrive!

No baby is not posterior, was at a -2 station at 39w 6d with 100% effaced and anterior cervix, so not too bad, but the real labor is what it takes to have this baby

since the hospital is far away, is there a motel or something close by that you could go over earlier and labor until you are ready to push? That could be a solution so you don't have to labor in the car or have your dh freak out. But mark my words, if you're not pushing when you get to the hospital, they will section you for sure. After all, I live in the place where 49% of women are sectioned.

Thank you !

Anyways I still have to go into labor before this thursday to avoid the repeat c-section that is scheduled, but so far I am not

If you don't go to the hospital, they can't section you...

You DO NOT have to consent to an induction or c-section. If you do not want either one, do not consent. Your body is your own. Don't cry about it, know your rights!

Totally worth repeating.

What kind of natural induction methods have you been trying? Maybe we can offer some you hadn't thought of.

Castor oil or enema: castor oil not only cleans you out and can start contractions, but it's also a cervical ripener (even though it sounds like you're doing fine down there)

DTD...natural progesterone! Like Ina May said, 'What got the baby in will get the baby out'.

Spicy food, a long walk, nipple stimulation, glass of wine to relax you...there are some others that can help too.

My hospital was 2 hours away. I was planning to head down to the city as soon as I went into labor and check into a hotel across the street from the hospital. It worked out that I didn't realize I was in labor until I was in active labor, but I still made it to the hospital in time. I was 8 cm when I got there and my baby was born 2.5 hours later. Also, I had a doula who lived in the city where my hospital was so it would be easier for her to get to me and then get home afterwards. It worked out great!

Sounds like your body is warming up and baby will be out in no time!

I agree with others. You don't have to show up just because they schedule you. You have rights.

well, if you don't feel the scheduled c-section is right for you, just call the hospital directly the day before, say that day doesn't work for your schedule after all, you need to consult with your calendar and you'll call back - that should at least be able to buy you a few more days - next appt set up another day, and then repeat above as long as needed.

i'm sure a bunch of people said it. They CAN NOT force you. they can 'policy' at you all they want but if they even take your BP without your permission you can sue for assault. Stand up and take control. make each choice Your own
