Our daughter is born!

Our little girl was born in our bedroom this morning at 8:42 a.m.
She weighs 8 pounds 3 ounces and is 21.5 inches long.

My midwife and husband attended me in labor, and the kids all sat and watched TV in the livingroom while she was being born.

Labor started at midnight--the contractions were about 40 seconds long and coming every 3 minutes for 2 hours, then dropped back to every 8-10 minutes. My midwife checked me around 3 a.m. and I was 5-6 cm dilated.

I had a bath, napped for an hour in between contractions, kept trying to keep my spirits up; I was afraid I was not progressing b/c the contractions were spaced so far apart, even 15 minutes apart and not lasting a minute at one point. Thank goodness for exams! My midwife checked me at 7:30 or so and I was at an 8. That made me feel so good, that at least it was progressing, even though labor didn't FEEL good (I just wanted to be done!!)

During transition, I had some back-to-back contractions. My water broke and I pushed her out in about 4 contractions. Having my Dh hold my hand during pushing was sooo nice. Her shoulders took some extra pushes, but she came out all covered, as in pure white!, in vernix caseosa.

She nursed right away and is sleeping now, in between making squelchy diaper sounds . She's a doll, quite fair, which is a surprise. Her brothers are excited to have her here and I am so glad to be done with that part. (The birth went well, but it was pretty painful.) Now, for a nap for Dh and me while the kids are at my sister's...and more nursing and diaper changes. Wow, still incredible that we get a sweet new baby out of all this!

Hoping for easy labors soon for the rest of the DDC mamas in waiting!!

Congratulations on your birth! I can just picture the other kids watching TV as though birth were just another day at home.
