Screaming upon waking- thoughts?

I have seen this on quite a few posts in this forum, so I thought I would ask if anyone ever found a connection between waking and screaming and some cause? DS has some decent nights where he sleeps "well" - waking to nurse a lot but only fussing on waking. Other nights are just horrible and there is a pattern of screaming on waking and not being able to sleep after feeding- sometimes waking 20 minutes after, sometimes an hour. We usually calm him on our chests and settling takes up to an hour or more.

Thoughts on the screaming? Does this sound like some sort of reflux? We haven't seen any other classic reflux symptoms.

Lately, I've been wondering if it's related to teething?

My little guy started to do this last month, not every night, but every so often (he's 11 months old) He is teething like crazy right now, seems like he's working on molars or something! he didnt have any problems with his other 8 teeth but these ones are rough. I also noticed that he has been having pretty bad gas in his sleep which could be causing the screaming.

Id love to hear other ideas on this..

OP, how old is the baby?

My 10 month old does this some nights. For her, it's mainly teething but sometimes gas. She can't ever seem to fart overnight, I have no idea why. First thing in the morning, when she's really awake, she'll toot without any problem, but overnight before that, she'll be a squirmy, screaming mess. And she's totally awake at those times. I think she gets so stressed and tense about it she can't just pass the gas.

Anyways, I always assume screaming in the middle of the night is pain. We're not big on medicating, but if a little Baby Orajel is what is takes for everyone to get some sleep, so be it.
