Let's Talk about Protein Powders - Page 3

Just wanted to say I really appreciate this thread! I'm going to be living in a hotel room for the next six weeks, and was thinking about trying out a protein powder for smoothies once a day. Thank you for the link to the Jay Robb egg white powder - perfect for what I'm looking for. I figure that if I add a couple of yolks to the smoothie it should help make the egg whites more digestible...

Don't want to derail the thread too much, but wanted to let those who were interested know that AF showed up today, so I'm no longer worried about being pg with twins. But I'm so grateful for this thread - it has been extremely helpful anyway!

Just an FYI for anyone looking in to egg white protein. Rose Acre farms IMO has the best and is non flavored, just 100% pure dried egg whites. It's probably not a TF thing, but I use them. They sell a smaller size like a pound I think, though I buy 5 pounds at a time. They have a good information page if you just go to www.roseacrefarms.com, click on the sport egg white protein or something it says. Their direct website actually has the best price for their product and they ship pretty quick. 1 tblsp 14 grams turns out to be 10 grams of protein. You can add it to smoothies and it make them just thick and sweet.

Chiming in a little late here, but maybe this will be of use to others who are considering hemp powder. I researched it a bit after receiving a sample from Nutiva and on paper it looks pretty good as protein powders go, nothing denatured, etc... That said, I think I overdid it a bit; I was drinking a hemp powder smoothie every morning for breakfast and after a month or so I developed a stomach ache that took a long time to go away. It might be entirely coincidental, but it seemed to be related, and since I have given up the hemp powder my stomach ache has gone away. The powder seems to be rather acidic - at least, I would notice rather acid-y burps after drinking it. So I wonder whether that might have irritated my stomach after a while.

Just a thought that hemp protein powder might not be a great choice to consume *every* day, especially during pregnancy when stomachs might be a little more sensitive anyway...

I think there is something on WAP's website about Hemp not being good.

How did I miss that?! I thought I looked there when I was researching, but I see now that Sally Fallon says that hemp is "not fit for human consumption." Yikes!

This sounds like an interesting food supplement, except for the ALA, which should not be used if you have/had any mercury fillings in your teeth. http://www.ultimatelife.com/CatalogMealBenefits.htm
