filling out the birth cert

So for the ob/midwife/attendant slot who are you planing on putting there?

I like the idea of having it be DH's name because it makes him part of the whole process but at the same time I feel like I should 'get the credit' since i'm doing most of the work even if he does end up doing the actual catching.

thoughts?

technically the birthing person cannot be named as the attendant. At least, this is what I experienced filling out BC's and speaking to the team at the office there. They will not accept anything but another person's name. I asked what they would do if no one else was present, they said they would hen want the first person (other then the mother) who arrived.

Don't think of it as credit. W all know who really did all the birthing. it's just a dummy form and IMO not worth causing a hassle when you should be soaking in your baby.

I'm sure this, like many things can vary by county and state. Here you have 5 days to file, or you have to go to the state capital/central office. We argued and in the end it wasn't worth any more time out of bed.

they want you to write the name of whoever caught the baby. That is what they told me. In my case that was DH. So it is his name. But not 'credit' as all he did was CATCH the baby. LOL!

My local authorities wanted whoever cut the cord to sign the certificate, so dh "delivered" the baby according to them, even though he was in the next room during the actual births.

YOu get the credit of being the mother who gave birth. I just put DH's name because I liked knowing he was just as much a part of the birth as I was.

In Illinois, we had to put someone who was present but that was the only guideline I was given. DH's name went there even thought I caught DD because it couldn't be me. I think that they are just wanting the name of someone who actually saw you give birth in case there are any issues down the road.

Alabama here. My name went down as the catcher of the baby, and cutter of the cord. My name is the only one listed anywhere on any document (other than my son's name). His dad was there at the birthing, but out of our lives by the time I got around to doing the paperwork - after my son's first birthday.

I"ve "caught" my own babies in both my UC's. Last time no one asked about it and DP's name was put as the person who delivered the baby. This time, the vital records person asked if I caught or he did. So I'm getting the "credit" this time, lol.
