I mind when he is up for 1.5 - 2 hours at night! Most nights DS2 gets up several times to nurse or have the paci put back in and get a little comfort, but then around 3, he gets up and when I go to him he had these wide eyes and I know this will be a different waking. For the others I can nurse him, walk him, and sometimes just give him the paci and he will go back to sleep, but at the crazy waking these things don't work. When he is up he sometimes screams, but most of the time he is happy in my arms, he just will not sleep. Then after about 1.5 to 2 hours of being awake he gets tired and I can get him back to sleep....but it is harder than normal because he is so wired and overtired by that point.
He is 8 months old. He nurses a lot, but has taken to solids much more seriously than my first did at this point. This has been going on for months and months. Sometimes he will have a few nights without the long waking and I will think it is over, but then it will start again. DS1 woke up a lot at night until he was almost 2, but he would always nurse and go back to sleep. Sometimes I wonder if there is something going on that is causing this....but I don't know what. Sometimes he is teething and sometimes I have given him a new food, but not always....and the whole thing started around 4 months which was well before he even started solids.
So I am asking you mamas...
1. Can you think of what might be causing this or is it just a developmental thing that some babies have and I need to wait it out.
2. Did your baby do this on a regular basis and then just grow out of it and if so when? I just need to hear some success stories.
Of course I have friends telling me to just let him cry, but that isn't me...

my DS does this from time to time too. Always just before a tooth pops through.
