I have a 6 yr old son who is just terrible acting anymore!!!! I wonder if it has to do with his eating habits. He wont eat much breakfast unless I sit and force him to eat....he skips lunch...dinner he rarely eats and at night time he goes to grammas while we work which she feeds him beef jerky and chips. SO....he is not getting any nutrition at ALL!!!!!!!!!! I was wondering if anyone has any info on foods that children need that can affect behavorial problems. Any recipes for him that are packed full of utrtion would be great as well! Please help me out mamas!!!!>>>????

EDIT TO ADD: I also homeschool and he NEVER EVER WANTS to school...he cant think or even has enough ability to want to work!!

I would see a Naturopath ASAP to test for food sensitivities. We went from a child who never slept to a child who sleeps normally in a matter of a week once we figured out he has issues with dairy, gluten and sugar (never really ate sugar anyway though).

He also could be reacting to the food additives in the junk food he eats at Grandma's. There are two separate kinds of reactions: he could be getting direct behavioral reactions from that junk, or he could have an allergy to one (or more) ingredient(s) in the "food" at Grandma's, and that could be inhibiting his appetite. It's hard to eat when your stomach hurts from something you ate, especially if you're only 6 years old and don't recognize what's going on.

If you google for vitamin and mineral deficiencies in children, you'll come up with a slew of information on behavioral issues because of those deficiencies.

However, this can kind of be a chicken and the egg kind of scenario. He may not be eating well due to food alllergies/sensitivities which can cause gastro intestinal issues as well as behavior issues. I guess the first step would be to encourage grandma to give him healthier food and cut out the junk. If he can't load up on junk, he might be more willing to eat healthier foods. If you aren't already, cut out all food additives and dyes. From there, you can watch for reactions to certain foods. Many mamas keep food journals to watch for reactions.

GL!
