Q for crib users. transition age

I don't remember at what age we transitioned dd out of her crib into a bed. So, for those of you who have made the transition, what age was your dc? I know this depends a lot upon the specific needs and character of each child. Just wanted to get a general range.

This would be assuming their room is childproofed, safe, and they won't be able to leave the room alone while everyone else is sleeping.

We do have a toddler bed that is low to the ground to transition to. We bought it for dd before we realized it was nearly useless and it wouldn't be used more than 6 month before she was big enough to get onto a twin bed.

At 2 my DD said that she wanted to be in the big girl bed. It's a day bed with a trundle that predated her in the room. We pulled out the lower bed a couple feet until she was comfortable.

We put DS in his toddler bed at 15 months.

We moved ds to a mattress on the floor at 13 months and then that was put on a frame when he was 15 months.

Dd never slept in the crib, but we transitioned her to a futon bed at 8 months old because we really needed the space in our bed and she was a bed hog. I would sleep next to her to get her down to sleep and then go back to my bed. By the end of the night I'd be in her bed.

We transitioned ds1 to his toddler bed when I was 7 mo. preg with ds2, so he was...28 mo. I anticipate he'll be in the toddler bed for at least a year, if not more. He really likes it.

DS - 24months
DD - 18 months

The day after they climbed out of the crib and jumped into my bed on there own LOL! I figured there was no reason to contain them after that!

DD's crib converts to a toddler bed. We converted the bed just this past weekend. DD will be 2 1/2 at the end of December.

So 1-2 is about the usual with about 18 months being the average. I think it's still too soon for ds at 1 year. I think if he got out of bed before falling alseep he'd just end up sleeping on the floor. Unlike his sister at that age, he's already a climber, so we'll see.
