Need kid friendly movie recc's.

Were going to be more or less trapped in the room at the Ronald McDonald House next week(4 days and 6 appts) except for going to our appts. The rooms do have VCR/DVD players though. Usually the kids get to run all over and to the playroom and stuff but with the place getting over run with h1n1/rsv families were hiding (if the weather is good I will take them out to the play yard which most families don't even know exists). So I need to stock up on movies! The local library has free movie checkout so we'll hit there and we will get out during the day but that still leaves a lot of time in the room. I'll bring the laptop for internet but what movies do you recommend we pick up? I have a 3 yr old and a 9 yr old. 9 yr old is into Voltron right now which is free online but usually the internet is so slow there you can't stream video. The 3 yr old only likes cartoons and won't watch the same one more then twice.

Does the 3 yr old like Care Bears? They have a ton of Care Bear Dvd's.... How about Holiday movies? A Charlie Brown Christmas or the entire Charlie Brown series? Mickey Mouse? "A Goofy Movie"?

I'm not sure for the 9 yr old, I never heard of 'Voltron'...
I just saw "Planet Earth" was released, "Night at the Museum #2 comes out on Tuesday.

She's seen them all, it gets tiring trying to find new stuff for her. Right now there going though the 1980's cartoons. Voltron is from the mid 80s

Try her on "Starblazers." It was a Japanese animated series from the 1980s. It's a good long series and pretty benign.

Miazaki movies are always good: "My Neighbor Totoro," "Kiki's Delivery Service," "Spirited Away."

For the nine-year-old, the field is pretty wide open, because there are a lot of grown-up movies kids that age can enjoy.

My kid likes:

Anything with the Marx Brothers
The Magnificent Seven (some violence in that one, obviously)
True Grit (ditto)
Enchanted
Musicals -- Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (deplorable role models, but she loves it when Marilyn gets stuck in the porthole), Singin' in the Rain, anything with Fred and Ginger ...
North by Northwest (the Mount Rushmore sequence was a little much for her)
The Man Who Knew Too Much
Shirley Temple Movies
National Velvet
Lassie Come Home
Anything Miyazaki
The Black Stallion
Treasure of the Sierra Madre

Also, you could try Cirque Du Soleil, Kimba the White Lion series, Jem and the Holograms series, the Wonder Woman live-action series from the '70s (DD loves these), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, any of the Ray Harryhausen stop-motion FX spectaculars like The Golden Voyage of Sinbad or Jason and the Argonauts.

Voltron! Sweet! Tell your nine yo that s/he rocks! I love Voltron. Have you looked at the library for it? Shrek (the whole series) is a big hit here, for all of us, a 21mo, 7 yo, 10 yo and DH and me. Oh and I second the Cirque Du Soliel. I'm not a big fan, but the rest of my family is just wowed by it. Along the lines of Voltron is Robotech, and the storyline is better.

Thalia, LOL Jem and the Holograms!! My mom would never let us watch that, but I bet it was good.

You know, I don't think I ever saw it either! But one of my (adult) friends LOVED it as a kid and is still obsessed with it, so when '80s cartoons came up I immediately thought of that.

Showtime Synergy!! I loved her light up earrings!

Oh, how about Schoolhouse Rock for both?

For your 9 yr old:

Bridge to Terabithia
The Golden Compass
The different Narnia films
Ratatouille

oh god yes she loves Voltron but I think that love just got replaced, I introduced her to the Transformers Now she wants to see the movie and is not happy I won't let her. The girl gets scared of Disney movies, I think the movie is a bit much. It worked out well, turned out RMH got a ton of new movies donated plus they finally got the WiFi fixed so she was able to watch a lot of Transformers eps on youtube. She was begging me to let her try getting on the net on the drive home so she could watch it. She's been watching it since we got home a couple hours ago, normally I would cut her off at 9pm but its been 4 very difficult days with her and I need the break so I'm letting her watch it until I relax enough to go to bed (its almost 1am and I'm just now getting tired, drank one of those double shot cappuccino things on the 3 hr drive home and its left me a bit wired up). Ha! She finally fell asleep, she was awake 30 minutes ago.

I'll see if the other cartoons are online too, she seems to love the 80's stuff that she's seen so far. Wonder if the GoBots are around still? I still have there comic books, lol, yep, tons of vids on youtube. Who needs cable when you have youtube? lol
