Once a transition vomiter, always a transition vomiter? - Page 2

I wasn't a puker, but my mom was, with all three labors (which were all done with lamaze and no pain meds). She said after the first, she just expected it, and my dad had to stand ready with something for her to puke in at that time.

Sounds like experiences vary

I'd say be prepared, just in case.

Hard to say. Every birth is different. My experience with my first was sort of masked by lots of medication. I only threw up with him in early labor. I had nausea/heartburn during active labor, but no throwing up. Second baby, I threw up a few times as I hit transition (best guess, no checks) Third baby I was nauseated for most of active labor, gave a few hard gags in transition (again, best guess, no checks) but no vomiting.

I did with my first, but I didn't with babies #2 and #3. Although I was nauseated - just didn't vomit.

puked, actually I dry heaved which is extremely painful and unproductive for me, the entire friggin' labor with #1 and on the operating table - no one offered any meds despite history of hypermesis
#2 was rpt c/s so no issue there
#3, I ate on the way to hospital and snacked and had soup for lunch prior to active labor. I got nauseated while pushing, but didn't puke - had anti-emetic request in my BP; doc said fine and it was in the orders in case I asked for them
#4, nausea meds were in my BP and when I got extremely nauseated shortly after arrival at hospital (I had a 4.5 hr labor (2.5 at home) and arrived just shy of transition) they got them for me as soon as I asked.

If throwing up is something that would hinder you in labor (as I believe it would me) ask for the nausea meds BEFORE you're in labor so it can be in your orders to dispense them when you request it. If you know of one that works for you, list it by name.

I had hyperemesis in each pregnancy, but it was the least bothersome in #4 (finally I got a break), but it's still really painful when I vomit. Given my history I insisted on Zofran (allergic to phenergan and reglan makes me crazy) and it really helped me at least not worry about that.

here how it has gone so far for me

1st- Vomited at 2 cms (I think thats what caused my water to break) had the baby 3 hours later
2nd- C/S
3rd- Vomited about hour and a half before I gave birth
4th- Vomited about 10 minutes before I gave birth

With my first baby, I vomited right at the very start of labor and again in transition. With my second, I did go through a slightly nauseous period but did not vomit.
