gap between bed and wall

Thread Starter
Baby's due in December and I just realized that my bed frame is such that there is a big gap between the mattress and the wall--like a foot wide.

Any suggestions on the easiest/best/cheapest way to fill that in and make it safe?

Thanks!

If there's something to set it on (the bedframe?) maybe you could cut a piece of plywood to fit? Then maybe cut an old futon down to size. A double layer might be the same height as your mattress they you'd get a little extra bed space as well. This is just a random suggestion as I haven't actually done anything like this but know a friend did cut a futon to fit a different space.

That is such a big gap I wouldn't be comfortable trying to fill it with anything for fear of it becoming unsettled in the night and trapping wee one. I'd just get a bed rail for that side.
