I was trimming dd's nails and totally clipped her tiny finger. It was absolutely horrible. She looked at me and then just started sobbing. I just applied pressure and held her. Poor girl was such a trooper and it was definitely bleeding. I totally caught her whole finger and it was bleeding and bleeding. She stopped crying pretty quickly though and I nursed her. She's sleeping now and it doesn't look life threatening or anything. I just feel SO bad. Can't believe I did that.

Yep, just did that the other day. I have just now started venturing out with the nail clippers rather than the file. I wait until I have nursed her really well and she falls asleep (deeply) or I work on it while she nurses. In one respect, I am lucky since I can have her on my lap to nurse and not have to hold her because bubbies are so large...*SIGH* but on the other hand, I am having back issues. I digress...This is probably the best way to accomplish this (nursing while clipping/filing). Also, having a really good light and a pair of nail clippers with the magnifying glass on it makes this easier or at least I would think so since I don't actually own these.

we did this to Sam very early on. He actually came out with long nails, this kid!! DH and I were trying to clip and clipped his poor thumb. It bled and bled. It was horrible to even look at. We fashioned a teeny tiny band-aid to put over it. I wish i took pictures
It actually stayed on for a couople of days.

I alos did this to Piper. She was ina deep sleep and I was doing great until she started sobbing...that is when I realized I had gotten her thumb. I felt so horrible. I am glad to know that I amnot the only mama to cut their LO. I have been so super careful since then. I like the idea of the file. I hadn't thought of this myself. Genious!

It's hard to cut their tiny little nails. I file DD's nails now and that seems to work when I'm too nervous to trim them. I have some baby nail files that were given to me at my baby shower and they are great.
