I never expected...

Thread Starter
Was thinking about all the little surprises of mothering this weekend and thought I'd list some of mine, hopefully y'all can add yours too (whether this is your first child or your fifth!)

I never expected:
-that I would come to pride myself on my ability to catch spit-up in my hand.
-that I would consider 5 hours a GREAT night's sleep.
-that a trip alone to the drug store would feel so fantastically liberating.
-that I would think my baby's poop smells good (not going to make a perfume out of it or anything, but I do!)
-that I would want to award the inventor of the pacifier a Nobel Peace Prize
And of course,
-that I could love someone so much who deprived me of sleep, pooped everywhere and regularly covered me in spit-up!

I never expected
-that I'd go to the bathroom with an audience.
-that I'd sleep in one position just to cuddle and not to wake the baby.
-that I'd get complimented on my breastfeeding skills by a grandma in the Target bathroom. (He was in his sling)
-that that same grandma would then compliment me on cloth diapering.
-that I'd look forward to nap time SO MUCH.

and the sentimental one
-that I'd love my husband so much for helping me make my little angel baby.

--that I would ever spend much of my day with one or both breasts exposed for any man... but I finally met the one! lol!

i never expected...

...breastfeeding challenges (see my s.n. )
...so much hair to take care of (dd3 was bald!)
...to hold her and total feel like i could go through pg hell again!
...that seeing my youngest and oldest together would make me so happy and so sad! they grow up so fast!

ten years ago, i never expected to be a new mommy again. now, i'm closing that chapter and it's so heart-wrenching knowing that i'll never get to do this all over again. i'll just have to look for the unexpected in my children as they grow. i'm sure they're not done with me yet!

that i would care less who sees my boobs.
this is bf baby #3, and i have honestly given up caring less about bfing in public. with #1 i think i was a little more shy.
