DD is reading! Woohoo

I needed to share this with everyone! My daughter, Bella age 7 almost 8, has had some trouble reading- she doesn't seem to be a site word reader, or really a phonics reader but loves reading. I kept believing that this was a maturation issue and as soon as she was ready it would click and now, it is!
She isn't jumping into chapter books or anything but she is able to read! We are working with a reading program that is geared towards helping children keep the skills they learned during the school year and it has kept me organized. We don't use this as our only reading experience, so it is very beneficial.

I am glad, I didn't push her and gave her space! She chooses whether she wants to do the reading program or not, and we continue to read lots and lots of rich stories.

How nice!

I have a 7 year old DD that is still reluctant to practice reading- she is beginning, but not reading on her own. That is so encouraging!

Congrats to your Bella!

Thats great Karen! My 7 year old DS sat down and sounded out words today, I was surprised because up until now he has "pretended" to not know his lower case letters. I was so excited, thanks for sharing, what a great milestone!

Ds had a similar experience-not reading untill eight, but now reads great. I do think some kids are not ready to read untill later and that is ok.
