if you're going to cow, i think its supposed to be whole milk.
i think goat is also recommended.

I say goat milk. Gentler on the tummy, easier to digest. Look it up or ask in the nutrition forum on MDC. They can give you more info

The best milk choice for human toddlers is human milk. If that's not available, then whole cow or goat milk is adequate, assuming your child is eating a reasonable variety of solid foods. If your baby isn't eating a lot of solids yet, then I'd use formula (infant formula or a toddler formula or a homemade recipe) or a mixture of formula and whole milk, until the baby is eating more foods.

I'm in the "humans only need human milk" camp. And congrats for nursing for a year!

If you're looking to add a beverage other than water there are many options, but keep in mind that these beverages are really just fun "extras"... they're not intended to fill a nutritional "need" like breastmilk or artificial baby milk does. But you could try cow milk or goat milk, almond, hemp, soy, or rice milk, maybe see if your little one might enjoy kefir or a similar beverage (always check the sugar content though... some beverages are absolutely insane in terms of "junk calories").

Although my littles breastfeed into the toddler years, I did introduce things like cow milk yogurt, smoothies made with yogurt and water, soy milk, rice milk, and hemp milk around a year. Most days the kiddos have soy milk on their cereal, cow milk yogurt (plain with chopped fruit mixed in) for snack, and sometimes a glass of almond milk in the evenings. Chocolate cow milk is a special treat when we're out and about so they have that maybe 1-2 times a month. If they're thirsty they generally have water.
