Bed too soft

We've been cosleeping with our son since he was just a few weeks old, but my husband and I have never been able to do it in our own bed. We find that the mattress is too soft, and when I lie next the baby it creates an incline, and the baby rolls over. He's too young to roll himself back or use his arms to push himself up, so we've been sleeping with him in a spare bed. The problem is that it only fits the baby plus one adult!

I miss sharing a bed with my husband! Is there any way we can make our mattress more firm? I can't afford a new mattress...

Also, I know they have those wedges to keep your child from rolling over, but will that work with nursing and such? I need to be able to roll him to his side to nurse, and then back to his back for sleep.

We were in the same boat. Our pillow top was WAY too soft. Our solution was to side car a crib. (google 'sidecar crib') It worked well for us because babe was on a firm surface. I just had to move my torso over to nurse AND we all had our own space AND we didnt have to buy a new bed.
