Does anyone know what the symptoms of pp sepsis are? has anyone ever had it if so how did you treat it? how serious is it REALLY?

Sepsis is a life-threatening bloodstream infection and requires immediate medical attention.

what the above poster said.

Fever, blood pressure issues, increased heart rate, are amongst many of the many many severe life threatening issues someone with this could be experiencing. Could also have foul or nasty vaginal or incisional discharge (but not always)

If you or someone you know you suspect may have this they should be taken to the ER immediately. Contact your physician first to verify symptoms and head straight to ER

Oh treatment of sepsis usually requires ICU treatment, antibiotics, medications to keep blood pressure and heart rate stable, IV fluids, surgery, etc etc...

If you are worried about this you should go to the ER RIGHT NOW! Sepsis will kill you if you don't treat it.

my symptoms

These are my symptoms:
*right after birth placenta membranes didn't want to completely detach, i think that instead of it finally coming out that the membrane that was still attached to my uterus just broke off.
* Extremely painful contractions when BF baby, worse than labor contractions. this lasted for 5 days
*during this five day period i had terrible back muscle pain, i attributed it to back labor. My UTERUS hurt badly and was more like sharp stabbing pains (same in my cervix), not very much bleeding after the first day. it didn't smell any different than after my other kids. extreme fatigue!
* two days ago my bleeding picked up very noticably! my back and shoulder blade area became sore to the touch.
* felt fine sat and sun. almost normal again ecept for spinal pain, something shifted during labor...
* Woke up this morning with stabbing pains like gas pains but these felt like i was being lanced through... got up tried to use the bathroom, nothing happened. IT HURT TO PEE, felt like my uterus was being pushed out, had sharp stabbing pains in my cervix. Waas shaking uncontrollably. tried a hot bath, DID NOT HELP AT ALL!
went back to bed to try and sleep it off.
When I woke up I hurt so bad all over achy and sore even my head felt bruised, the stabbing pains were not as intense. Now and ever since i have felt like i am being squished and can hardly breathe, feel like domeone shot a cannon ball at my gut. i have lots of pressure in my bum area and it still hurts terribly to pee. ihunch over when i walk b/c it hurts everywhere to stand up straight.
i dont have ins or medicaid so i can't just walk into a docs office for normal pains and would appreciate any advice that you could give. Thank you very much if you read this. has anyone ever treated this with herbs.
Oh and my baby Was born on Nov. 20th symptoms started that day.

It sounds just like Puerperal Sepsis

Symptoms:
* Fever
* Flu-like symptoms
* Abdominal pain
* Foul-smelling vaginal discharge
* Abnormal vaginal bleeding

I'd be headed for the hospital ASAP!

I think it sounds like a uterine infection (endometritis) and I would definitely go to the ER if you have no insurance and no other option. You need antibiotics immediately. Possibly IV, but maybe not if you have no fever. If your bleeding is significantly more than it was, that in itself is reason to seek medical attention. Go get some help now!

agreed with the above. I've known UC-ers who needed treatment for it.

PP sepsis used to account for a large percentage of maternal mortality back before there was sanitation/basic hygiene. I would have gone to the ER by now for sure.

I went to the ER 4 days after my son was born because I just felt "sick" and my temperature was 99.9 .... they checked EVERYTHING. 8 vials of blood, etc, etc. It was determined I was just severely fatigued and since I have MS, the fatigue was affecting me worse than it would most women. Anyhow, I don't regret at all going to the ER even though now we are paying on an $800 bill. I suggest you go to the ER.

Just checking back in. I really hope you went to the ER. It sounds like you feel and know something isn't right and need to be checked out.

Good luck I hope all is well.

could also be a UTI- in any case needs to be checked out and probably antibiotics for you -- ER docs are not always good at OB things, I would suggest calling the OB unit before you come in and see if they will call in a doc for you if you don't have one. If you have seen a doc or mw with RX ability in your pregnancy then call them they may be able to help out -or atleast meet you at the hospital.

Just so you all know--the right help was sought and all seems to be ok now. I will leave it to Abell to post details if she will, but I thought she wouldn't mind this little head's up sent by me.
