Seriously, what is with this ridiculous spotting? 7 weeks of nothing but breastmilk. UGH!

With DD, I bled for only 11 days then had absolutely nothing until my cycles returned at 7 months postpartum. She had no solids until 8 months but started sleeping through the night at 3 weeks old.

Now with DS, he's 7 weeks old. A week ago, I had a random day of heavy spotting. It was heavy enough that I needed a liner for it, but light enough that I only needed "a" liner. I thought my AF was coming back. Then the spotting stopped, then came back again yesterday. Then it stopped last night, and then is trying to come back again right now. It's always red, never brown or pink. I'm so NOT pregnant unless it's immaculate conception, but am a little nervous in wondering how I'm supposed to chart this in my cycle and if I'm trying to be fertile or not. I'm really confused. Also, DS is exclusively breastfed but is not sleeping through the night yet.

Anyone else spot while breastfeeding? I am highly annoyed at this b/c it comes w/o warning and I don't know whether to wear a liner or not from day to day.

Yep, I usually had a breakthrough bleed at around 6 weeks postpartum, despite exclusively nursing. My cycles didn't return in full until around 6 months postpartum.

It was frustrating, but it's not uncommon.

After my first baby I spotted off and on a lot before my period started, I really blame it on the Depo shot my OB forced on me, I think it totally screwed up my hormones. This time around I refused any birth control after delivery and I'm 15 weeks pp with no spotting or period yet.

it's normal. mbay women who BF around the clock have bleeding and even cycles. I nursed 45 of every hour with my first and still had a cycle like clock work every month.

ANY bleeding (even spotting) shuld be taken as the return of fertility. You cannot go without BC now, unless you choose to take the risk.

congrats on your fertitlity, you get to do it all well!

Just to clarify: I know baby has had only breastmilk, but are all feedings at the breast? Are you pumping at all?

Well the answer to both questions is "yes" lol. All feedings are at the breast, and I have pumped a few times, but not fed him the pumped milk. It's in the freezer instead.

And except for a scant few times where I couldn't nurse him right away, all of his sucking needs have been satisfied at the breast as well. And even those times, I nursed him within 5 minutes or so.
