We're non vaxers and won't be getting this one either. I have a friend that asked how contagious the shots for H1N1 are. Do the shots have a live virus? I didn't get anything when I googled to see if it's live or not. I'm a little out of the loop since it's been awhile since I researched this stuff.

| In a review of more than 51 studies involving more than 294,000 children it was found there was "no evidence that injecting children 6-24 months of age with a flu shot was any more effective than placebo. In children over 2 yrs, it was only effective 33% of the time in preventing the flu. |
| The inactivated flu vaccine, Flumist, does not prevent influenza-related hospitalizations in children, especially the ones with asthma…In fact, children who get the flu vaccine are more at risk for hospitalization than children who do not get the vaccine." |
| A study 800 children with asthma, where one half were vaccinated and the other half did not receive the influenza vaccine. The two groups were compared with respect to clinic visits, emergency department (ED) visits, and hospitalizations for asthma. CONCLUSION: This study failed to provide evidence that the influenza vaccine prevents pediatric asthma exacerbations. I'm in VA too. It's been here for quite awhile! And now that the state has gotten it's 2 million doses of the swine flu vaccine/mist, expect it to stick around a bit longer.

I just thought it was
that the map on their website was so doom-and-gloom. I think it is easier for me to be sarcastic about it because I live in an area where H1N1 has NOT been rampant -- in fact we don't know anyone personally, who has had it or even been suspected of having it. I'm sorry your area is being hit so hard.

I really love this line:
"Public health officials worry that people may become complacent about getting vaccinated, which could prove disastrous if a third wave of infections swells later this winter or the virus mutates into a more dangerous form." Just how does a vaccine help against a mutated form of the virus??? |
