3 month old FB leaking!

I searched through the threads and didn't quite find an answer that suited my situation....

So, my Fuzzibunz have leaked every night for the past few nights. We have only had them for about three months. We EC during the day and have 5 FB that we rotate during the night. Depending on how much my chunky, 25 lb 12 month old wets at night the dipes get washed every day to day and a half. We wash them in Country Save with a vinegar rinse. The inserts get thrown in the dryer and the outers get hung to dry (every once in awhile we do put them in the dryer to reseal the PUL). We've never used diaper cream/ointment in them. DS only wets in them. They are leaking from around the legs. I put it on him pretty tight last night, checked the leg holes, they seemed fine, but in the middle of the night we all woke to a soaking wet bed. We also change his diaper 1-2x at night. When the dirty diaper comes off it doesn't seem very wet.

Is this a repelling issue? Or a leaking issue?

We have been diaper free for 2 years, but that sounds like a build up issue to me. I know I had to experiment with laundry detergents and quantity used to prevent build up which leads to repelling issues. Try stripping your diapers and inserts, then using less detergent? if that doesn't work then I would consider chaninging detergent (just for the diaper loads) to a brand known to be nice to CD's.

What's the best way to strip FB?

Country Save is supposed to CD friendly. We've never had build-up on our cotton prefolds. I wonder if it is reacting with the synthetic fibers?

I have similar problems. I always thought it was just because he was a heavy wetter. I never tried stripping the FB or anything, but we've been putting woolies directly around the FB and that usually keeps his clothes and sheets dry during the night so we don't have to change him.

What do you mean by woolies?

Like a wool soaker or pants or something to put over the diaper. They are lanolized and soak up any wetness really well. I then make sure his onesies or shirts are OVER the wool so they don't get wet.

Many people make them. I'm not crafty enough to do that, so I buy them relatively cheaply on etsy.com.

Something like this:

or this:

(These are just examples -- I have no affiliation with these sellers)

I actually posted a thread about how to strip FB's a couple months ago, although I never did strip them.

I had this same problem with FB's leaking at night when my daughter wore them. They were put away for a year and I thought they needed stripped but then decided to try them first on my younger son. They worked just fine. I think dd was a heavy wetter and that was the problem. For a while we solved the problem with her by adding extras inserts. That definitely helped when she was less than 2 years old. After that, they leaked. Now they are fine on my 11 month old, no leaks at all!

Love that idea of a wool cover, though.

That's what I thought you meant by woolies, but I wanted to check and make sure I wasnt' missing something.

I checked the diapers today and water just rolls right off of them. I cranked the hot water heater and washed them twice, but they are still leaking. I may have to just break down and wash them more. Has anyone had success with the RLR stuff?

Try Calgon. I just tried it on my BGs with HOT water, and it seemed to work really well.

If you search the diaper threads for "calgon," you'll find a lot more information about it.

I tried Calgon, and it stripped the inserts effectively. I ended up scrubbing the cover with a toothbrush and some dish soap. They finally work again. Although I will say I am never buying mf again!

Thanks for all the suggestions, ladies!
