My DD is 11 months old and is very difficult to get any solid foods into. She is in the 15% percentile for her weight (dropped from 50% a few months prior) and is actually, probably lower than that, as that weight was taken two months ago and she doesn't seem to be getting any bigger at all.
Things she will eat: plain whole milk yogurt, bits of cheese, whole wheat crackers, prunes, one specific baby food that contains sweet potatoes, brown rice and chicken, and sometimes she'll eat multi-grain cereal with cinnimon. She only eats 4-5 bites at a time of any given food. She won't feed herself finger food. She just plays with it. I am a very good cook -- believe me, I've tried EVERY healthy food known to man in pureed or soft form. I offer her water frequently (she usually just has one sip).
So, what's the problem? She's frequently very constipated -- she has large, hard stools that are very painful for her to pass. I think I need to give up the dairy. That's the only calorie dense food she will eat. Meanwhile, she really is a picky, skinny child.
I DO still breastfeed her and I'm sure that's what's keeping her at-all healthy. She nurses very frequently. I do have to work and I don't always pump enough for her so she's been getting organic dairy formula, which I now feel like I have to switch to something else -- what?
Please help me formulate a plan to help her gain a little weight and not be constipated all the time.
FTR, she is meeting developmental milestones and she has good energy levels, so I don't mean to sound as if she's SOOO bad off. But I AM worried.
