so any ideas for lighting a tree without lead lights?

I would just love a creative plan to "brighten" up our tree that won't have traditional lights on it due to the lead factor. Not sure about using candles though.

You are concerned about lead in the cords of the holiday lights? They are made from the same PVC materials as every other electric cord in your house - the TV, the PC, lamp cords, hair dryer, etc.

If you have older light sets, it might make sense to replace with newer ones, to have the PVC cords in better condition and reduce fire hazard. (New LED lights don't get hot like older bulb sets)

LED tea lights?

I've been spending the last several days trying to figure out this problem! I'm thinking about buying some LED tea lights. Anybody have any creative ideas for how to attach them to the tree?

thank you for the thoughtful replies so far. I know lots of cords have lead, but when we tested our christmas lights the lead tester turned bright red and our other cords just light pink so I think there is a lot more in them. Also, the lead gets onto the tree, which we will compost and I would like to keep lead out of our compost. The tea lights might be worth a try. I'm going to look for some with a remote on off switch maybe? I like the 48 of the for $23 dollars though, not to bad!

Tea lights

I actually ended up buying this set: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00..._ya_oh_product

The other ones wanted like $25 for shipping or something, and these qualified for free shipping. It would be nice to find some with a remote on/off!

so I found some led tealights with a remote, 6 for 60 dollars, to expensive for me! I found some color changing ones too! abcdistributing.com

So, are we sure that led tealights are lead free? I might try to call one of the sellers to see if they know, though they probably won't.

It's possible that there is lead inside of the tea lights, but the most lead on string lights is on the actual string. It is in the PVC that is used to make the cord flexible. So, these may not be 100% perfect, but I think they will definitely be a lot safer than the string lights in terms of exposure.
