Any Buddhist's? A few questions?

Some preface. I grew up Mormon until I was 19. My DH was Mormon for a few years even went on a mission. But neither of us are LDS anymore AT ALL.

Recently a friend had said she was a Buddhist. It intrigued me. Granted all I know about Buddhism comes from the movie 7 years in Tibet. I would love to know more. I get so lost googling it.

Are there different types of Buddhism? How do you choose which one. I brought the subject up to my husband. If he would like to learn more. He said no. I'm just pulled into reading and learning more and would love to talk with someone about it. Anyone?

Also anyone willing to share how they became buddhist? What brought you to that point? What do you love about it?

I'm not decidedly Buddhist, but I do have Buddhist leanings. I've researched it plenty. Here's a good resource.

There are different schools of thought within Buddhism. Theravada, Mahayana and Zen are the most common here in the West.

The Zen tradition is tied to Taoism, the Tao Te Ching.

This page goes into the Four Noble Truths and Eightfold path.

Buddhism is nontheistic in that it doesn't posit a Creator deity. Buddha was not a god, nor did he claim to be. There's no theology and it doesn't address a First Cause (Creator). No deity worship. Nada.

But, then, you may run into ppl who have Buddhist family roots that do believe in God and talk about God in relation to Buddhism. (Even HH The Dalai Lama mentions God in his books, which threw me for a loop and annoyed me until I talked to my Shanghainese Buddhist friend about Buddhists and God, whom she believes in and says that many Buddhists believe in God, but it's not like the Christian God and so many don't talk about it.)
